The Division of General Surgery in the Sprott Department of Surgery at the University Health Network and the University of Toronto is inviting applications for the position of an Academic Gastrointestinal Surgical Oncologist/Colorectal Surgeon. This appointment is for a full-time faculty position in the Division of General Surgery at University Health Network.

The effective date of this position is August 1st, 2023.

The successful applicant will work within the Division of General Surgery and will participate in general surgery call at the attending staff level, practical and didactic teaching of general surgery junior and senior residents and as well as general surgery oncology fellows. The clinical practice of the successful candidate will focus on benign and malignant diseases of the colon and rectum with interest in developing novel and innovative therapeutic strategies in this field. This will include advanced open and laparoscopic approaches for colorectal diseases, as well as endoluminal diagnostic and therapeutic colorectal procedures.

The successful candidate will be a surgeon scientist who is interested in leading basic science research initiatives focused on colorectal disease pathways, and will hold a graduate degree (Masters or PhD). Evidence of strong academic commitment is required. Additionally, evidence of productivity, excellence, and the potential to become an international leader is essential.

The candidate must have completed a residency program in general surgery as well as a Surgical Oncology or American Association of Colorectal Surgeons accredited fellowship, (or equivalent). The candidate\'s application should demonstrate outstanding technical skills, the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and to teach trainees at all levels.

The candidate must be eligible for appointment at the University of Toronto at the academic rank of Assistant Professor. The candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Start-up research support and mentoring will be provided. Starting salary will be between the range of $200,000.00 - $300,000.00 (CND) and commensurate with qualifications and experience. This estimate is based on fee for service billings and the support from the University Health Network Division of General Surgery practice plan.

The Division of General Surgery is currently comprised of twenty-six surgeons, three of them specializing in Colorectal Surgery.
