Concordia University of Edmonton\xe2\x80\x99s Faculty of Science is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences in the Department of Biology and Environmental Sciences. Concordia\xe2\x80\x99s Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science program offers 3- and 4-year Bachelor of Science degrees, giving students the option to either prepare for a professional career or move forward into professional programs or graduate schools. The Environmental Science program provides students with the option to pursue a concentration or major in the field. The program also offers an opportunity for students majoring in other fields to pursue a minor in Environmental Science. The degree programs are designed to give students a broad understanding of the foundational concepts in Environmental Science. Students are exposed to extensive laboratory and field experiences that support and expand upon concepts discussed in lecture while allowing them to gain a variety of practical skills.

This position is available to begin July 1, 2024, or shortly thereafter.
Requirements for the position include:

  • A doctoral degree in Environmental Science - experience in Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Risk Assessment, and/or Environmental Pollution is an asset.
  • Excellence in both research and teaching, or strong potential to develop such excellence.
  • A desire to contribute to the University and department in various service roles.
  • A commitment and ability to advance the quality and content of programs, courses, initiatives and the student learning experience. Experience in program development will be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially as a team member with a variety of teams and stakeholder groups.
  • Commitment to grow professional relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the broader community.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The normal undergraduate teaching assignment is 9 hours a week in the first year and 12 hours a week for subsequent years. CUE provides opportunities for reductions in teaching to pursue research. In addition, the successful candidate will be committed to growing professional relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the broader community, promoting diversity and inclusion as broadly understood.
