The successful candidate will be offered a tenure-track appointment with the rank of Assistant Professor, which is in accordance with the , and offers a comprehensive .
Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.
Situated on Treaty Six territory, the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta invites Educators with research and teaching expertise in the area of Secondary School Science Education to apply and join the Faculty of Education where they would have opportunities to engage in thoughtful and critical scholarship alongside undergraduate/graduate students and internationally renowned scholars. The Faculty of Education seeks a Secondary Science Education teacher educator and researcher for appointment to a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin July 1st, 2026.
Responsibilities:

• Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Secondary Science Education and/or other areas of education across the Faculty.
• Engagement in a research program relevant to Secondary Science Education.
• Contribution to service within the Faculty, University and the broader community.
• Advising and supervising graduate students.

Qualifications:

• Applicants must have completed a Doctorate (PhD or EdD) in Science Education or a closely related field (e.g., Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Science Education, Educational Psychology with emphasis in science learning, or equivalent). Applicants who are close to completion (ABD) will be considered.
• Applicants must demonstrate potential for scholarly excellence in terms of productivity and creative innovation and attract internal and external funding. Candidates must have relevant teaching experience at the school and post-secondary level. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability and expertise to teach and supervise graduate students in Secondary Science Education.

Preferred Qualifications

• Evidence of successful science teaching at the secondary (grades 7-12) level, and substantial engagement with secondary school contexts.
• Demonstrated potential for a program of scholarly research in science education, as evidenced by publications, conference presentations, or other scholarly activities.
• Evidence of effective teaching at the postsecondary level, particularly in courses related to science methods or curriculum.
• Demonstrated commitment to ensuring access, fostering community connections and increasing belonging; and demonstrated commitment to Indigenization in teaching, research, and/or service.
• Experience with contemporary science education frameworks, such as inquiry-based learning, STEM/STEAM/STSE integration, or Indigenous science perspectives.
• Willingness to collaborate with schools, school divisions, and community partners.

• A statement of research, that outlines the main areas of current research and short- and long-term research goals (2 pages max) and 2 peer-reviewed research publications.
• A one-page statement describing your service contributions and philosophy, which can include: experiences with collegial governance, community engagement, and support for equity and inclusion.
• Teaching Dossier that includes:

• Maximum 2-page teaching philosophy;
• Evidence and potential for teaching effectiveness, such as related training, teaching assistantships, courses instructed, recent course evaluations, and example course outlines for courses you delivered as an instructor.
• Maximum 1-page reflection on their experiences as science educators, including: subjects and grades taught. The applicant is encouraged to describe how these experiences have shaped their perspectives on teaching and learning in science - particularly with regard to fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of the natural world among students.
• Identification of specific courses at the undergraduate and graduate level that you have the ability and interest to teach.
