Our client who is a leading industrial services company is looking to add a strong Assistant Payroll Manager Systems & Projects to their team. In this role, the Assistant Payroll Manager, Systems & Projects will be responsible for managing the payroll aspect of projects to result in a successful transition of payroll, time and attendance and D365 including rule tables within the various platforms/systems. The candidate will have a depth of experience in previous roles in operational full cycle payroll with an affinity to systems and process.

Project Specific Responsibilities:

  • Payroll migration from legacy ADP Pay@Work to a new Payroll System
  • Time & Attendance migration from JDE to TeamApps - co-ordinate gathering of rules / datasets / unions from various locations and work with Project Team from inception, design and implementation
  • ERP migration activities will require payroll process redesign and end to end understanding of cycles to support a successful transition internally from JDE to D365
  • Other Projects as assigned
Additional responsibilities:
  • Application of payroll best practices and knowledge of ESA when approaching topics
  • Understand impact of payroll activities as a unionized and labour services company
  • Support external and internal audit requests as well as customer audit inputs to operations
  • Understand day-to-day operational payroll including but not limited to monthly union remittances preparation - this would be critical to update & create process mapping
  • Create and continuously update SOPs and How Do I\'s for payroll operations and systems
  • Train employees within department and business users as needed
  • Maintain a safe, secure and healthy environment by adhering to Company/Customer safety standards and practices and to legal regulations, alerting others regarding potential hazards or concern
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

Education & Work Certification:
  • Bachelors degree
  • CPM designation
  • PMP designation would be an asset
Project & System Management Skills:
  • Previous project experience with payroll system migration or new implementations an asset
  • Ability to schedule activities, meetings, events, gather, collate, and/or classify data
Systems & Technology Skills:
  • Previous System administrator role for payroll & related systems would be an asset
  • Familiarity with D365, JDE, Pay@Work, UKG/similar systems would be an asset
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite - Excel (Advanced/Intermediate knowledge with Vlook ups, Pivots, Macros), Teams, Word and PowerPoint
Payroll Skills:
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll processing, audit and applicable legislation/regulations
  • Min 5-7+ years in progressively responsible payroll positions, public company work experience an asset
Other Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal
  • Ability to work under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods;
  • Ability to multitask and meet multiple compliance deadlines
  • Excellent problem solving, collaboration and communication skills
  • Effective attention to detail, a high degree of accuracy and ability to adapt to changes
