The Royal Ottawa Golf Club has an exciting opportunity for a baker to join the team for a one-year Full Time Term Position with possibility to extend. The Assistant Pastry Chef will act as a key member in the kitchen, reporting to the Executive Chef, the Sous Chefs, and the Pastry Chef. They will be responsible for quickly and accurately delivering on routine baking and pastry items.
The Assistant Pastry Chef will work both independently and alongside the Pastry Chef, as well as other members of the kitchen team. The candidate should be able to follow recipes provided, but also bring in new ideas and creativity. They must work efficiently while maintaining a clean and organized station. Job Responsibilities
Responsible for the preparation of cakes, desserts, muffins, cookies, scones, etc.;
Able to work independently, as well as part of a team;
Plan ahead and see what's needed for banquets, the line, orders, events, buffets, etc.;
Accurately follow and multiply recipes according to weekly needs;
Work quickly and efficiently while maintaining a clean and organized station;
Utilize proper tools and equipment, ensuring their cleanliness and maintenance;
Maintain food in clean and hygienic conditions to prevent waste & spoilage;
Offer input for desserts, flavour combinations, new products, etc.;
Create elegant pastry items and consistently exceed Club service standards;
Inspect deliveries for quality and weight prior to acceptance;
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Pastry certification from recognized post-secondary institution (completed or working towards completion) or equivalent working experience;
Ability to make a large variety of items in the baking & pastry realm, including cakes, pies, cookies, plated desserts, muffins, icings, fillings, sauces, garnish, etc.;
Have basic knowledge of the science of baking, procedures and techniques to use, and and when items are done;
Ability to recreate recipes, sometimes in large volumes;
Must be able to bake, ice and decorate cakes in a professional manner;
Knowledge of common kitchen sanitary procedures;
Knife skills are an asset;
Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays (student schedules will be discussed)
Salary details
Hourly rate : 18.58 - 26.45 $
