Springcreek Cemetery Inc., a not-for-profit organization, is seeking a dedicated and reliable
Assistant Manager-Cemetery (Outdoor Position)
to help oversee the day-to-day outdoor operations of the cemetery grounds. This role includes supervising grounds staff, ensuring proper burial setup and maintenance, managing landscaping and equipment, and upholding standards for safety, customer service, and respectful care of the deceased and their families. The position involves physical outdoor work, interacting with customers during sensitive moments, and a commitment to maintaining the cemetery grounds to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate landscaping equipment and small machinery (e.g., backhoe, riding mowers, tractor, leaf blowers, chainsaw, trimmers, snow blowers, etc.)
Assist in managing all aspects of cemetery grounds maintenance, including mowing, sodding, weeding, planting, leaf/snow removal, landscaping and upkeep of burial sites, monuments, and common areas, etc.
Assist the Outside Manager with the supervision and scheduling of grounds crew staff, providing training, oversight, and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
Oversee burial and interment preparations, including grave opening and closing, site preparation, equipment use, and coordination with funeral homes.
Maintain detailed records of burials and maintenance activities in coordination with administrative staff.
Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements related to cemetery operations.
Respond to client family's needs with compassion and professionalism, ensuring a respectful and comforting experience.
Assist in inventory control of equipment, tools, and supplies needed for cemetery operations.
Step in for the Cemetery Manager during absences or as needed
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required.
Valid Ontario G Driver's License.
Fluent in English (oral and written).
Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
A minimum of 2 years of experience in cemetery, landscaping, groundskeeping, or related outdoor operations; supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge of cemetery equipment (e.g., backhoes, mowers, small tractors, Kubotas) and safety procedures.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
Note:
Successful applicants will be required to provide their own CSA approved work boots.
Job Type: Full-time
