Reporting to the General Manager, the Assistant Manager plans, organizes, directs, controls and evaluates the operations of Northbest Distributors a retail wholesale establishment.A Day in the LifeReporting to the General Manager, your job duties include:
  • Plan, direct and evaluate the operations of all departments.
  • Manage staff and assign duties
  • Study market research and trends to determine consumer demand, potential sales volumes and effect of competitors' operations on sales
  • Determine merchandise and services to be sold, and implement price policies
  • Source and negotiate with vendors when necessary to procure merchandise for resale
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies
  • Assist with planning budgets, authorizing expenditures, and monitor revenues
  • Evaluate and improve customer service and respond to customer requests and issues
  • Address staffing requirements, including the hiring, development and retention of staff
  • Develop new business, penetrate existing accounts, and minimize lost business to achieve profitable sales growth and special objectives within assigned territory.
  • Research customer business needs and develops a mix of products and services to meet needs.
  • Drive vehicle travel to customer accounts, conventions, and company meetings.
  • Manage deliveries according to the routing schedule published by the transportation department; troubleshoot any problems that occur during the order process (e.g., out-of-stock items, special order items, and low inventory).
  • Engage in ongoing training sessions and assist with training new employees as requested.
  • Perform administrative duties, such as preparing sales budgets and reports, maintaining sales records, processing credits, and pick-up requests, preparing sales quotes and suggestions, and filing reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What You Bring
  • Bachelors degree or diploma in business, Marketing, Hospitality, Culinary Arts or related discipline or;
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent with 1-2 years of retail Management experience
  • B2B or outside sales experience, or equivalent relatable experience
  • Highly organized and well-developed oral and written communication skills
  • Reside or willing to relocate to the Yellowknife, Northwest Territories
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with MS Office, including excellent.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English and or the official languages of Northwest Territories will be an asset.
  • Able to build trusting business relationships and customer loyalty
  • Ability to conduct sales follow-up and persuasiveness
  • Adaptability to changing business needs
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable
  • Familiarity with Yellowknives Dene language, culture and way of life would be considered assets.
