POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for preparing the monthly and quarterly consolidated financial statements of ShawCor Ltd. by ensuring that the consolidation of all subsidiaries has been done correctly across the two major hierarchies in Longview. Responsible for doing a detailed review of the top-side journal entries in Longview. Responsible for streamlining the processes by which the financial statement notes are compiled while making them more efficient by leveraging the functionality of current systems and software. Responsible for reviewing statutory audit reconciliations in Longview and for the audit of the consolidated financial statements of several subsidiaries and holding companies. Responsible for assisting with the implementation and transition of the new consolidation software (OneStream). Responsible for assisting with the accounting and reporting of potential divestures and acquisitions.

DUTIES

  • Prepare the monthly and quarterly consolidated financial statements (and accompanying notes therein for the quarter and year-end periods).
  • Prepare parts of the Management Discussion & Analysis Report.
  • Prepare parts of the quarterly press release.
  • Perform detailed quarterly balance sheet reviews of all divisions.
  • Liaise with external auditors on matters pertaining to the audited consolidated financial statements and other disclosure reports
  • Perform a first level detailed review of the consolidation and other top-side journal entries prepared at Corporate on a monthly basis.
  • Conduct and implement a formal review program for specified trial balance accounts such as foreign exchange gains and losses, and equity accounts including share capital, contributed surplus, retained earnings, CTA, and other accumulated comprehensive income (loss).
  • Manage the retained earnings account
  • Ensure that all Investment-subsidiary eliminations are being done correctly.
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements and accompanying notes of wholly owned subsidiaries for statutory purposes.
  • Perform detailed review of complex accounting journal entries and schedules such as those relating to business combinations (PPA\'s), pension accounting, and financial instruments.
  • Perform benchmark analysis of the MD&A and Press Release with peers.
  • Perform continuous evaluation of the internal management reports (i.e. process efficiency and methodology).
  • Perform Continuous automation of any manual compilation of notes and other information for the consolidated financial statements and MD&A.
  • Assist with the implementation and transition to a new consolidation software.
  • Assist with the accounting and reporting of potential divestures and acquisitions.
  • Other ad hoc and special projects as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5-7 years of experience in a relevant function.
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Finance/Accounting or related field;
  • CPA, CA or equivalent designation;
  • Advanced financial reporting and accounting knowledge under IFRS;
  • Experience in dealing with complex accounting issues;
  • Experience with consolidated financial statements of large public companies;
  • Proficient in handling large-scale consolidation issues;
  • Good working experience with foreign currency consolidation issues;
  • Experience in preparation of financial statements, notes, MD&A;
  • Knowledge of income tax accounting, Longview and OneStream would be an asset;
  • Effective team player
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong problem solving and time management skills are a must; and
  • Superior business writing skills.
