Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated, adaptable, and tech-savvy Assistant Manager to join our non-profit thrift store team. This role supports the Store Manager in day-to-day operations, provides leadership to staff and volunteers, ensures excellent customer experience, and helps uphold our mission of giving back to the community. The ideal candidate is a strong problem solver, an effective communicator, and someone who thrives in a dynamic, people-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
Store Operations & Leadership
Support the Store Manager in overseeing daily store operations.
Supervise, motivate, and mentor staff and volunteers to ensure a positive and productive work environment.
Assist with scheduling, training, and performance support.
Lead store operations in the Manager's absence.
Customer & Community Engagement
Provide exceptional customer service and help maintain a welcoming environment.
Address customers concerns with professionalism and empathy.
Represent the organization's mission and values to the public.
Technology & Administrative Support
Use point-of-sale systems, inventory software, and other digital tools effectively.
Assist with tracking inventory, sales reports, and operational data.
Support social media, online listings, and digital communications as needed.
Problem Solving & Adaptability
Quickly assess and resolve issues related to staffing, customer needs, and store operations.
Adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced retail environment.
Support donation intake flow and floor organization during busy periods.
Merchandising & Store Presentation
Help maintain organized, clean, and visually appealing sales floors.
Assist with pricing, sorting, and displaying merchandise.
Ensure safety, cleanliness, and compliance with store policies.
Qualifications
Experience in retail, customer service, or non-profit environments (management or supervisory experience preferred).
Strong technology skills, including comfort with POS systems, inventory software, and basic digital tools.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to work effectively with customers, staff, and volunteers.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to stay calm and adaptable under pressure.
Ability to stand, walk, lift, and manage donation/merchandise handling as part of daily responsibilities.
Commitment to the mission and values of a non-profit organization.
Must be able to work all required shifts: Wed-Fri 12:30-8:30 PM, Sat-Sun 9:30-5:30 PM.
