The Opportunity:



Excalibur department - With both the population and employment demographics of Canada changing so significantly, there are people who want to access a mortgage and own a home - but they may fall outside of traditional credit requirements. Alternative lending (Excalibur) offers a mortgage option for those people. The Assistant Manager will Conduct thorough reviews of underwriter, AMU, and funder files to ensure compliance with company standards, accuracy, and completeness. The Assistant Manager will provide effective leadership and guidance to meet the goals of the Residential Underwriting Division. The team is responsible for the assessment of mortgage applications, making lending decisions and adherence to underwriting policies and guidelines. The team also has responsibility for reviewing required documentation for accuracy and completion and for closing and advancing funds on approved mortgage applications while maintaining a consistent focus on service excellence.



How you will contribute:



Establishes and maintains positive relationships with mortgage brokers to build loyalty to the Company Makes lending decisions within established limits while ensuring adherence to policies and guidelines Completes management reporting as required Stays current with latest industry knowledge, competition, and market trends Manages the capacity of the team through efficient delegation of work and careful monitoring of volumes within the workflow Manages the performance of team members through ongoing feedback and coaching Recruits, interviews, hires, and on boards new employees as required Provides coaching, training, support and development to team members Leads team meetings Monitor turnaround times and ensures service level agreements are adhered to Maintains positive relationships within the team, Account Managers and external partners such as brokers and solicitors Other tasks assigned by Senior Manager Adheres to policies/procedures to ensure AML requirements are met.

The experience you need:



Ability to build and maintain positive relationships Strong aptitude for service excellence Strong communication skills - both written and verbal Ability to manage and resolve conflict Strong analytical skills and attention to detail Organizational and time management skills Positive team player with desire and ability to mentor others Effective problem solving and decision-making skills Minimum 2 years previous mortgage underwriting (Alt - A) experience required Completed post-secondary education or equivalent work experience required Working knowledge of PC software in a Windows environment Ability to manage pressure in an environment of high volume processing with tight turnaround times

Working Environment and Physical Demands Analysis:



Office environment Periods of high volume with tight timelines Long periods of stationary position/sitting Prolonged periods of repetitive movement (i.e. using a keyboard and mouse) Long periods of time in viewing a computer screen Multi-tasking may include speaking to customers on a telephone call while looking up information on a computer program.
