The Assistant Maintenance Technician is a skilled maintenance person to support the Maintenance Technician with daily preventative maintenance, troubleshoot problems, and complete equipment and building repairs as required.
Contract Length/Schedule
This is a 3-month contract position with the potential for extension based on our organizational needs and requirements, working on average 40 hours a week; Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm. Varying hours, weekend, on-call, and holiday work will be required.
Position Accountabilities
Support the Maintenance Technician to perform mechanical duties including, but not limited to, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
Assist with the diagnoses of problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments to hatchery equipment.
Follow the preventative maintenance schedule on machines, equipment, and facilities.
Recommend process improvements.
Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
Update and maintain Atlantic Poultry Incorporated records systems and maintenance databases as required.
Alongside the Hatchery Manager and Maintenance Technician set priorities for preventative maintenance and work orders.
Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service as required.
Support the Maintenance Technician to maintain adequate supplies and equipment for the maintenance department.
Clearly communicate the required work to the Maintenance Technician and Hatchery Manager.
Participate in required training.
Report safety concerns and identify hazards related to maintenance work.
Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
Prioritize and manage your time to complete all assigned tasks and stay up to date with preventative maintenance.
Support grounds keeping maintenance work, including snow clearing, ice control, equipment maintenance, tractor operating, etc.
Be willing to work a flexible work week with extended hours as necessary.
Provide an environment free of animal cruelty, abuse and/or neglect for our poultry
Protect the organization's value by keeping all protected and proprietary information confidential
Practice bio security protocol.
Follow all safety processes and procedures
All other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
Previous experience in a general maintenance role is preferred.
Attention to detail and excellent troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work with live poultry
Strong commitment to health & safety
Strong communications skills, customer service skills
Physical ability to lift 50lbs.
Valid Driver License and Driver Abstract.
Able to work well under pressure & maintain professionalism.
Proven self-starter with the demonstrated ability to work well independently with little to no supervision.
Working Conditions
The position operates indoors in a production environment. The work environment is warm and humid and dusty at times with strong odours. This position also operates outside to clear snow and perform other maintenance activities. Standing for long periods of time, repetitive tasks, climbing stairs and ladders, and heavy lifting are common activities.
