About the School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS)
The School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) offers the Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS), a professional graduate degree accredited by the American Library Association (ALA), in both on-campus and online delivery modes. It also offers a joint MA/MLIS and a combined MBA/MLIS. SLIS is an administrative unit within the Faculty of Education and has the only MLIS program in the Prairie Provinces and the only fully online, accredited graduate program in LIS in Canada. The School is committed to Reconciliation with Indigenous communities, including Indigenous students and instructors.

Position Summary
This part-time, term-specific appointment is for teaching a course in the ALA-accredited Master of Library & Information Studies (MLIS) program during the Spring/Summer 2026 term (May 5 to August 17, 2026). The course is offered asynchronously online.
We invite applications from qualified candidates for a part-time, term-specific teaching appointment for the following course offered in the Spring/Summer 2026 semester. Candidates from equity-denied groups are encouraged to apply. We especially encourage applicants with professional experience in Indigenous, health, business, legal, and government Records Information Management (RIM) contexts to apply.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the SLIS Director, and per the Faculty-approved Position Profile, duties include:

• Provides instruction to graduate students.
• Prior to the start of class: Designs course syllabus; orders textbooks and other course materials as required.
• Upon conclusion of the class: prepares, administers, and marks final exams/assignments; completes records related to grades.
• Evaluates student performance progress and provides appropriate and timely feedback according to department protocols.
• Demonstrates scholarship and remains current and competent in the discipline or profession by keeping course syllabi current and assignments relevant to the needs of the current student.
• Attends course-related orientations, meetings and other activities related to teaching assignment.
• There is an expectation that ATS members make themselves available to students as needed/required.

• LIS 594 - Records Management

The theory and techniques of records management. Pre or corequisite: LIS 501 or consent of instructor.
Qualifications:

• MLIS (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program. Other relevant graduate-level qualifications will be considered alongside professional experience.
• Minimum five years of full-time, relevant, professional experience.
• Demonstrated commitment to the University's Indigenous initiatives and principles of access, community, and belonging in graduate-level teaching within a framework of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
• Demonstrated currency and expertise in RIM as evidenced by publications, presentations, and other artifacts.
• Teaching experience in the online postsecondary environment.
• Experience in the design and development of inclusive online instructional resources and assessments.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work in, and contribute to, a collegial environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional designations and certificates such as Certified Records Manager (CRM), Information Governance Professional (IGP), Information Access and Protection of Privacy (IAPP) Certificate, and Data Privacy and Security Certificate are assets.
• Demonstrated experience with provincial/territorial legislation such as the Alberta Access to Information Act (ATIA) and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) is an asset.
