Assistant Law Clerk (Litigation)
General Accountabilities:
Provide support to one Assistant General Counsel and a group of lawyers with a focus on litigation
Assist in the coordination and scheduling of meetings, court hearings, mediations and discoveries
Calendar and email management
Drafting, proofreading, serving and filing legal documents
Coordinating and instructing process servers
Expense reporting
Maintaining a physical and/or electronic filing system
Other duties as assigned
Specific Accountabilities:
Drafting legal documents, including but not limited to pleadings, motions, briefs, summarizing discovery notes, transcripts, economic loss and other reports
Preparing and filing documents with the court, managing court schedules
Prepare, maintain and file documentation as required
Supporting investigations in the defence or prosecution of cases against the company
Opening and closing files
Provide overall administrative support
Other duties as required
Selection Criteria/ Essential Knowledge
: Excellent oral and written communication skills, including a strong knowledge of grammar and exceptional spelling and proofreading abilities
Excellent keyboarding skills with proficiency in MS Office applications
Good working knowledge of Caselines
Proficiency with the Rules of Civil Procedure
Ability to multi-task and manage priorities to meet deadlines
Minimum 3 years' experience working as a Law Clerk or similar roles
Completion of a Law Clerk Diploma is an asset
Essential Competencies
Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to redefine priorities when necessary.
Ability to work in a collaborative manner within the department and with staff in other departments is essential.
Strong attention to detail to be able to analyze legal documents for accuracy
Ability to handle sensitive or private information
Ability to work independently, follow instructions with minimal supervision and take initiative as required
