The Assistant Kitchen Manager, a temporary full-time position for 12 months, will support the Kitchen Manager in all aspects of kitchen operations, ensuring smooth service, supporting staff, maintaining high standards of quality, cleanliness, safety, and supporting the mission of the community. This is a hands-on role combining management, teamwork, and practical food preparation / service, reporting into the Kitchen Manager and in accordance with the Abbey's standards.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in planning and coordinating kitchen operations: menus, food preparation, service, and clean-up.
Supervise kitchen staff, assign duties, and provide support/training.
Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and workplace safety.
Order and manage inventory of food, supplies and equipment; monitor cost control and minimize waste.
Assist in prep work and execution of meals for residents, guests, groups, and special events.
Ensure the kitchen and associated areas remain clean, organized and maintain
Assist in scheduling and shift coverage.
Provide relief for the Kitchen Manager as required.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of one years' experience in a kitchen?management or supervisory role.
Strong knowledge of food preparation, portioning, menu writing, cost control, inventory management.
Familiarity with food?safety regulations (e.g., Food Safe or equivalent) and kitchen hygiene best practices.
Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate and support kitchen staff.
Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, coordinate shifts and events.
Commitment to quality, teamwork, reliability and respect for communal life and values.
Must be comfortable working within a faith-based community setting, respecting the environment and mission of the Abbey.

Pay: $21.50-$25.00 per hour
