Reporting to the Supervisor Construction Inspection. Assists with the inspection and monitoring of construction and maintenance work by contractors engaged for municipal infrastructure contracts for conformance to specifications, contract agreements, drawings and safety standards.
Major Responsibilities:
Assists with the monitoring of Municipal Infrastructure Construction projects, such as the construction of watermains, sewer, sewer connections, storm water facilities, parks, roads and sidewalks to ensure that the work is in compliance with contract documents and drawings, City and other referenced specifications & standards, grading sheets, the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other statutes and regulations
Takes pre-construction photos, videos and makes notes of pre-existing conditions prior to construction work commencing
Delivers notices of impending construction work to residents and businesses
Inspects materials to ensure that they are of the proper quality and in accordance with contract plans and City specifications and policies.
Carries out field inspection on construction done by Utility Companies, developers and other 3rd parties, to ensure their adherence to previously approved plans and that restoration is to City standards
Marks designated areas for repair/construction on structures such as roads, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, as per drawings
Arranges for quality assurance testing of sewer and watermain pipe, soils, concrete, asphalt and granular material used on construction projects
Prepares daily and summary reports including materials/equipment used, hours worked, quantities of work items completed and other relevant information
Measures repaired/constructed areas to verify dimensions, and calculates and checks calculations of quantities for payment to contractors.
Inputs measurements on excel spreadsheets. Documents time, material and equipment used when additional work is done
Attends pre-construction and job site meetings to discuss progress, resolve problems (e.g. completion dates, finalization, non-compliance). Records, types and distributes minutes of these meetings. Liaises with general public, contractors, utilities, City staff and other agencies
Prepares and maintains up to date records for "as-built" drawings as project progresses. Photographs work done on job sites
Performs guarantee maintenance inspections
Reviews post construction videos of completed work for deficiencies
Fills out service cards for new installations and City records
Key Qualifications:
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to: * Civil Engineering Technician Diploma and/or equivalent combination of education and work experience in Civil construction inspection of roads, sewers and watermains.
Experience in providing customer service to a broad range of stakeholders.
Experience in civil construction inspection of roads and sidewalk and sewers and watermains.
You must also have
Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class "G" Driver\'s License and must have daily access to a fully insured and licensed vehicle for on the job use.
Must be available to work shifts, weekends, evenings, night and/or overtime.
Knowledge of the type, quality, and quality assurance methods required for the construction of roads, sewers, watermains, etc.
Ability to read and interpret plans specifications and contract documents.
Knowledge of construction methods as related to the major responsibilities of the position.
Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work including confined space entry, traffic control, WHMIS, first aid, etc.
Ability to determine whether the construction work performed is in accordance with required standards and contract documents.
Ability to prepare concise and accurate reports and the ability to make calculation estimates for materials, time, etc. required for projects.
Must be available to work weekends, overtime and occasional shift work.
Good interpersonal skills.
Ability to work well in a team environment.
Ability to communicate effectively to the public and different stakeholders.
