Your Opportunity:
We are seeking a highly motivated, leadership driven individual, for the position of Assistant Head Nurse (AHN). The AHN will be directly involved in the development of this program with the support of the Program Manager. The AHN has an expert understanding and knowledge of addiction and mental health programming, strong collaborative skills, and the ability to liaise with other internal, allied, contracted, and community stakeholders to facilitate timely care to individuals experiencing problems related to alcohol, opioid, other drug, tobacco, and co-occurring addiction and mental health problems. The AHN communicates any appropriate clinical concerns or staffing issues to the most appropriate clinical concerns or staffing issues to the most appropriate management or leadership teams. The AHN is responsible for liaising with local businesses throughout the year and participating in key community engagement or leadership activities including reviewing Good Neighbor Agreements, attending engagement sessions, and meeting face to face with local businesses. The AHN is responsible is responsible for planning and implementing site development projects in the realm of clinical care, safety planning and supporting staff/program development. The AHN is responsible for file auditing and ensuring that all policies and procedures are upheld at the site. The AHN is responsible for overseeing the develop and maintenance of the clinical protocols followed by the site in conjunction with program supports. The AHN Is responsible for coordinating medication supply management with program admins and local pharmacies as applicable.
Description:
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

At least two years nursing experience in a Narcotic Transition Service, providing/initiation Opiate Agonist Therapy, or other relevant Addiction and Mental Health setting within the last 5 years in required. At least two years Charge Nurse experience required. Completion of Provincial Addiction and Mental Health Curricula & Experiential Skills (PACES) program. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024.
