We are seeking an experienced and highly organized
Assistant General Manager (AGM)
to support the day-to-day operations of a housing cooperative. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the AGM plays a key leadership role in administrative management, employee relations, arrears and evictions administration, special projects, and operational oversight. Who We Are
Neill-Wycik Co-operative College is a large, non-profit student housing cooperative in downtown Toronto, providing affordable accommodation to post-secondary students. The co-op is mission-driven, community-focused, and rooted in cooperative values and member engagement. The organization supports a diverse membership of current student and alumni and operates a large residential facility alongside ancillary operations - including a short-term summer hostel. Neill-Wycik is governed by an elected Board of Directors and staffed by a mix of unionized employees and management professionals, working collaboratively to deliver safe, well-managed housing and services.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Administration
Administer and maintain records related to unionized employee discipline
Support grievance processes, arbitration, and negotiations as required
Assist the General Manager with complex employee relations matters
Arrears & Evictions
Track member arrears in collaboration with the Bookkeeper and General Manager
Meet with members to discuss repayment options
Administer internal arrears procedures and Landlord and Tenant Board applications
Prepare and submit required documentation and attend hearings and mediations
Coordinate collections for outstanding arrears after member departure
Management & Office Operations
Ensure compliance with health and safety, accessibility, and mental health legislation
Participate on the Joint Health and Safety Committee
Administer employee benefits and RRSP programs
Manage banking and financial administration, including online banking, transfers, and POS systems
Assist with General Members' Meetings and Board-related administration
Additional duties assigned by the General Manager
Special Projects & Capital Work
Provide administrative coordination for capital projects and member communications
Coordinate unit access, notices, and temporary relocations during capital work
Assist with RFPs, RFQs, and capital planning
Support system and process improvements, including housing databases and online platforms
Leadership & Coverage
Assume General Manager responsibilities during absences
Provide supervisory coverage for department leads as required
Attend Board and Committee meetings as needed
Supervise Housing staff and support departmental operations
Hostel Operations Oversight
Oversee hostel operations and support the Hostel Operations Manager
Ensure alignment between hostel operations and organizational objectives
Qualifications
Experience in housing, property management, nonprofit, or cooperative environments (an asset)
Knowledge of Landlord and Tenant Board processes
Experience working in a unionized workplace
Strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency with databases, financial systems, and Google Workspace
Experience managing budgets in a workplace setting.
Experience with StarRez (an asset)
