This valued team member is responsible for assisting in the development of products by creating and developing various craft spirits, distillation planning and execution, overseeing production, managing inventory, and regulatory compliance. The Assistant Distiller also plays a key role in product promotion through public tours, sampling/community events and customer communication.
Responsibilities
Ability to manage the day-to-day cycle of production in keeping the production schedule in line with sales and distribution schedules
Assist in all production aspects, including mashing, fermenting, and distilling spirits, as well as bottling, labeling, and packaging finished products
Maintain process logs for distillation, recipe formulas and other necessary documentation
Assist in data entry to ensure accurate and up-to-date records for storage, production, and processing of all spirits
Assist in filling, weighing, gauging, labeling, and placement of barrels and totes
Maintain ongoing product quality under the direction of the Head Distiller
Research and maintain knowledge of products and distillation trends and assist in new product testing/experimentation
Maintain and clean all equipment owned and operated by the company
Maintain inventory levels, documentation and storage
Handle basic warehousing and receipt of raw materials and production supplies
Must be capable of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and completing repetitive motions. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time (approximately 6 hours or more incrementally per day). Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs unassisted, or 100 lbs with assistance.
Willing to complete any other task deemed appropriate for the Associate by the Management team
Provide tours to the public ensuring detailed explanation of the products and the distillation process
Greet and serve tourists/guests who enter the Distillery seeking products and product information
Maintain a high level of confidentiality
Assist in analysis, sample cataloging, and track compliance data for all distilled spirits produced on site
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree preferred
Relevant Science / Food Science education preferred
2+ years in a production environment, preferably in a brewery, distillery, or winery
Ability to communicate and receive technical instructions (verbal and written)
Writing and math skills necessary to accurately complete dilution calculations, volume, weight, pressure, alcohol content, and other unit conversions
Mechanical aptitude - knowledge of machinery and systems
Ability to work independently, and with others
