Assistant Director of Care.


Position Overview:



The Assistant Director of Care, in collaboration with the Director of Care, is responsible for ensuring daily organization and delivery of safe, competent and ethical care in accordance with the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics of the Nova Scotia College of Nursing.



The Assistant Director of Care is a member of the Senior Leadership Team, responsible for supporting a human habitat that supports quality of life for the Residents of Willow Lodge. This is accomplished through the implementation of the Mission, Principles of Care and the Organization Values



Reporting directly to the Director of Care, this position is a Monday-Friday, eight-hour day position, but on occasion, based on operational needs, may need to act as the duty RN.


Key Responsibilities:




Comprehensive knowledge of each resident's needs and supports the development/implementation of individual care plans to meet those needs in collaboration with other nursing staff. Involvement in the introduction and education of nursing staff to InterRAI at Willow Lodge. Informed communication with all departments. Ensures full completion of fall reports and reportable occurrence forms by staff. Monitoring/follow-up of PointClickCare (risk management, progress notes, eMAR, etc.) and communication of same to Director of Care Provides support to the LPN for the management of the unstable resident in the absence of RN on duty. Preparation for rounds and rounds with Medical Director and other physicians. Supports RN/ LPN communication with family members any changes in resident's condition or medications, falls or serious incidents, or consultations with other practitioners. Respectful communication with all members of the health care team, including Medical Director and other responsible physicians, Director of Care, Dietician, PT/OT assistant, RNs, LPNs and CCAs, Pharmacy Team and all staff of Willow Lodge Delegates tasks to other nursing staff in relation to resident care needs according to scope of practice. Takes the lead in multidisciplinary meetings and resident care conferences. Participates on other committees, such as pharmacy, wound care, OH&S and Infection Control. Supports scheduling when scheduler is not on site. (Weekends, holidays and after-hours staffing issues are supported by the Team Leads, however they may occasionally need support in re-assignment, overtime approval etc.) Promotes and respectfully supports the Policies and Procedures of Willow Lodge. Participation in annual licensing preparation. Mentoring licensed staff to perform skills within their scope of practice that they may not be familiar with in collaboration with or absence of the Clinical Education Navigator Liaise with local pharmacist for medication related issues. Regular diagnostic phlebotomy. Documentation following standards of practice guidelines. Assist in resident immunization clinics in Willow Lodge. Adheres to the best practices of Infection Control/ Public Health/Occupational Health Palliative Care support when required. Communication of Medical and other appointments (dental, Ortho, etc.) to clinical administration support position to secure arrangements. Support for coverage for the Director of Care.

Qualifications:




Extensive experience in nursing management in a long-term care setting. Extensive experience in Geriatric Nursing. Graduation from an approved nursing program, preferably with a BScN. Eligible for registration in Nova Scotia. Knowledge of legislation in long term care, as well as other government legislation in the areas of labor, employment, health and safety, human rights and provincial standards and classification for long term care. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with others, both orally and in writing at all organizational levels. Proficient in the use of various computer applications. Excellent negotiating, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills. Ability to foster teamwork, manage change and operate in an environment that promotes excellence. Effective decision-making skills. Current certification in Immunization Course or willingness to obtain. Current CPR
