POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The incumbent will provide direct nursing services to clients, residents, and program participants of various facilities of The Salvation Army, ensure infection prevention and control surveillance is in place, and evaluate and audit for compliance for the health and safety of the residents, staff and families. This position will also ensure all staff are held accountable to required Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) processes and standards, as mandated by The Ministry of Health and and these standards monitored, analyzed, and evaluated on an ongoing basis.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
Ensure all IPAC regulations required under the Fixing Long-Term Act are met and maintained.
Take a multidisciplinary approach and includes input from families and residents.
Review, analyze, and track surveillance data, vaccination data, swabbing data.
Support and promote staff compliance with policies, public health, best practices and guidance to administration, committees, staff, essential care givers, families and residents regarding infection prevention and control.
Conduct and maintain the delivery of the Home's/Facility's IPAC training program for all staff, caregivers, volunteers, visitors, and residents.
Coordinate the Home's/Facility's vaccine program, including ordering, storage, administration of vaccine and reporting of data to Ottawa Public Health
Ensure the Home's/Facility's cleaning and disinfecting protocols are in place and followed.
Under the direction of and in collaboration with the Director of Care, maintain the Home's/Facility's pandemic plan.
Under the guidance of the Director of Care, collaborate with the outbreak management team at the outset of an outbreak and regularly throughout an outbreak.
Coordinate the infection prevention and control program, including surveillance, education, consultation and improvement of practice to ensure optimum infection control practices are in place.
Reviewing daily and monthly screening results to determine whether action is required.
Evaluates and develops action plans to address any deficiencies in procedures or practices.
Ensures there is a hand hygiene program in accordance with all legislated protocols.
Act as back up to the swabber.
Develops and document business requirements, process and reports as needed.
Develops and document options and recommendations to issues and problems.
Supports key stakeholders in understanding the implications of options and decisions.
Conduct annual program evaluations in consultation with the Director of Care.
Upholds established coaching and disciplinary process for any staff resistant to IPAC protocols.
Creates and maintain list of reports required for health and safety compliance purposes.
Support Nursing Services Practitioner III in providing comprehensive nursing care that is evidence-informed to the individuals TSA supports: nursing assessment, development of nursing care plan as needed, nursing clinical care, evaluation of health outcomes, health teaching and promotion.
Support external reporting requests as needed.
Travel to different sites/between sites, if required.
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Internal: MU/Facility leaders and staff, DHQ, may be a member of various committees
External: Program participants, clients, residents, families, funders
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports directly to the _____.
Direct reports: None.
The incumbent is accountable to provide functional advice, training, direction, and guidance regularly to front line staff to ensure proper health care management of all residents without having direct authority over them.
May also provide staff training and performance management recommendations to Manager for consideration, specifically in relation to the field of health care.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
Moderate material responsibility (access to confidential information, some medications, etc.).
Ensures proper usage of Personal Protective Equipment
Ensures proper usage of Rapid Antigen Tests/PCR Tests in house
May be authorized to spend small amounts of petty cash.
May have some input to annual budget, with respect to own job.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is mostly performed indoors.
May be required to work various shifts including evenings, overnights, and weekends. Flexibility is required.
Exposed to medications, bodily fluids, waste, and other hazardous materials.
May be asked to carry a cell phone and may be expected to respond to calls as needed.
May be expected to travel between sites and group homes.
Programs support individuals that may exhibit behavioural issues. Will be required to be trained and certified in NVCI (non-violent crisis intervention and prevention) and First Aid.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a provincially/federally recognized institution.
Membership to the provincial organization and in good standing.
Current Standard First Aid and CPR level C or ability to obtain within the first 2 weeks of hire.
Current certification in infection control from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (preferable) or enrollment in an appropriate course on track for completion within 2 years.
Experience and Knowledge:
5 years of relevant experience is required.
Previous similar experience in Long-Term Care with comprehensive knowledge of duties
Knowledge in best practices of Infection Prevention and Control
Experience with coordinating committees for all required programs mandated by Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
Experience creating and maintaining a pandemic/emergency plans.

May require a valid provincial driver's license and has a clear driver's abstract as well as access to personal vehicle if there is no program vehicle.
Ability to provide an acceptable Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening).

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $76,120.88 to $95,151.09 with a maximum of $114,181.31.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
