We value the collective diversity of our natural and cultural heritage and our people and believe in the transformative nature of culture to help create healthy, active, growing communities.For more information visit https://cch.novascotia.ca/DutiesReporting to the Manager of Collections for the Innovation, Collections and Infrastructure Unit (ICI), this position assists in the development and maintenance of the registration of artifacts for the Marine History collection. Working closely with the Curator of Marine History and other staff in the Collections Unit, this position will prepare documentation relating to the acquisition of collections and loans of artifacts and specimens, as well as use, preservation, conservation, and disposal of collections, in accordance with the NSM Collections Management, Conservation, and Research policies and procedures. A key function of this position is the creating and maintaining of electronic and paper collections records. Additionally, this position assists with providing access to the collection (including images) which includes providing support to exhibit, interpretive products, publications, and to individual enquiries from the public or staff.Key responsibilities include:

  • Registration of artifacts
  • Maintaining records relating to the collection
  • Providing access to the collection.
  • Assisting with curatorial and interpretive duties.
Qualifications and ExperienceSuccessful completion of a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in a related field, such as museum studies, history, maritime studies, plus three (3) years related experience; or Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree plus one (1) years related experience.Demonstrated skills and experience in museum collections registration.Computer literacy and ability to use a database use pertaining to artifact collections.Excellent writing and speaking competencies, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.Ability to work with minimal supervision and in collaborative project teams.Valid NS Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License requiredEquivalencyApplicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.BenefitsBased on the employment status and union agreement, the Government of Nova Scotia offers its employees a wide range of benefits such as a , Health, Dental, Life Insurance, General illness, Short and Long Term Disability, Vacation and Employee and Family Assistance Programs.
