Early Childhood Education degree or diploma.
Registered with the College of ECE.
Minimum of four (4) years experience in childcare or related field.
Minimum of two (2) years child care supervisory experience an asset.
Ability to communicate effectively with parents, children, colleagues, and external agencies.
Ability to provide leadership and guidance to staff as a team player.
Good organizational and problem solving skills.
Sounds knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act.
Sound knowledge of the Region of Durham's requirements (Children's Services (DROC) and the MOH).
Computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel) an asset.
Experience in finances and record keeping an asset.
Must have a vehicle and valid drivers license.
Must be able to work confidently with community partners.
Ability to work independently.
Must be able to work flexible hours, including split shift.
Job Responsibilities
Program
Oversee the centres programs to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with all regulations.
Treat children and families with dignity and respect in an equal and objective manner.
Schedule the appropriate use of shared space and equipment.
Use of an environmental assessment tool (DROC) on an annual basis in the classroom and utilize the information gathered for the betterment of the classroom and program.
Ensure adequate levels of supplies, equipment, and resources are available in the programs (both indoor and outdoors) and to be the staff overseeing the programs.
Ensure the services provided in the centre are delivered in a professional and quality manner, in a safe and clean environment.
Ensure that risk management strategies are in place and ensuring the health and safety of the children, staff, parents, and all visitors to the centre.
Proven ability to plan and implement a play based, emergent program for kindergarten and school age children.
Implement policies and procedures within the centre.
Human Resources
Monitor the staff's performance and provide feedback on an ongoing basis, including involvement in yearly performance appraisals with the Supervisor.
Identify training needs and career development for staff within the centre to the Supervisor.
Ensure appropriate internal procedures are in place to promote positive communication and teamwork.
Orient all new staff and ensure all staff are familiar with all necessary policies, procedures, and guidelines and follow them as required.
Ensure knowledge of the number of children throughout the day.
Ensure staff are kept abreast of all policies and procedures, children and family issues, etc. through ongoing communication (staff meetings, postings, log books, etc.).
Ensure staffing levels are adequate and meet CCEYA and centre policies.
Administration
Maintain all records (staff files, client files, current policies, financial records, regulatory documents, etc.) in an organized and accurate manner.
Be familiar with and adhere to all necessary policies and regulations (ex. Ministry of Education, Durham Region Health Department, Durham Region Children's Services, Durham District School Board, and others, as required).
Communication
Ensure ongoing positive communication with parents through varying means, including newsletters, oral communication, meetings, etc.
Liaise with provincial and local agencies, as required.
Report to the Supervisor on a consistent basis, as required.
Facilitate positive partnerships within the school community.
Support teaching opportunities of students in cooperation with local educational institutions.
