The Assistant Chef plays a crucial role in our kitchen, ensuring the high-quality preparation of all dishes and supporting the Executive Chef in daily kitchen operations. This position also provides key assistance in cafe management, menu planning, and catering operations.

Role/Responsibilities:
Food Preparation:
Prepare menu items, ensuring consistency in taste and presentation.
Quality Control:
Maintain rigorous standards for food quality, plating, and safety.
Inventory Management:
Assist with inventory control and ordering.
Kitchen Operations:
Collaborate with the Executive Chef to ensure the efficient and smooth functioning of the kitchen, including food and menu costing.
Resource Management:
Support the supervision and coordination of kitchen staff, including scheduling and training.
Cafe Menu Planning:
Create and update the cafe's menu offerings, ensuring variety and innovation.
Cafe Quality Control:
Participate in maintaining the quality and presentation of food prepared for the cafe, ensuring it adheres to high culinary standards.
Cafe Operations:
Provide support for day-to-day cafe operations as needed, including hands-on food preparation during peak hours.
Catering Support:
Provide hands-on support for our catering operations, including supporting or leading events and food quality control.
Qualifications:
Previous experience working in a kitchen environment is required
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in menu planning, inventory management, and resource coordination
Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques and food safety regulations
Knowledge of kosher food and preparation is an asset
Ability to follow recipes and prepare food with attention to detail and presentation
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Food Safe Level 1 Certificate Required
Culinary school an asset
Driver's license an asset
This is a full-time position Monday to Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm. Some evenings and weekends will be required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $26.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 - 50 per week
