Reporting to the Supervising Engineer, Asset Strategy & Analytics, this position is accountable for supporting the asset management activities for ATCO Electric\'s transmission and distribution assets. The engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive asset strategies for major asset classes using a risk-based approach. The engineer will also develop short and long-term asset maintenance and renewal plans, along with its business justifications, to support strategic business planning, regulatory forecasts, and resource requirements across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop asset management strategies and best practices for transmission and distribution (T&D) asset classes.
  • Determine asset lifecycle strategy and develop renewal plans for T&D assets by analyzing asset risks and various operational indices (including asset condition, system criticality, reliability, operational constraints, and financial data).
  • Develop technical scopes and provide business justifications for Capital projects, such as asset replacement/life extension, system improvement, and capacity upgrade.
  • Develop and prioritize Operation & Maintenance (O&M) plans for T&D assets, including preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Lead/involve in the rollout of new engineering innovations and technologies, including assessing potential new technologies, participating in pilot projects, and developing company-wide implementation plans.
  • Establish value frameworks for evaluating the risk and priority of proposed Capital and O&M programs.
  • Provide input to the organization\'s annual business plans based on short and long-term asset plans which aligned with corporate objectives.
  • Support the overall regulatory application processes (Transmission General Tariff Application and Distribution Performance-based Regulation), including developing business cases, responding to information requests, as well as providing supports for filing updates and witness preparation.
  • Conduct transmission reliability analysis to identify areas for improvement.
  • Responsible for demonstrating transmission system compliance in accordance with AESO ARS requirements, such as PRC-005.
  • Support the business in building and implementing IT/OT best practices to maintain high quality asset data.
  • Support the management of non-regulated contracts to provide O&M services to owner company, including preparing annual maintenance plan and capital replacement plan.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical or Civil.
  • Professional Engineer designation with APEGA.
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years\' work experience, preferably in an electrical utility environment.
  • Knowledge of electrical utility system and its components/assets.
  • Knowledge of strategic asset management and business planning, including T&D asset operation and maintenance planning, capital investment rationalization, as well as lifecycle value analysis. Knowledge of ISO 55001 is an asset.
  • Basic understanding of the concepts of asset information register and computerized maintenance management system, such as Maximo, SAP, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of developing query/coding for data analytics, such as Power BI, SQL, DAX, etc.
  • Strong data analytical skills.
  • Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with others, manage diverse relationships, and influence other groups.
  • Facilitation skills to gather subject matter expertise and work toward consensus in the development of strategy framework and/or scope of work.
  • Adapt to change and focus on continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a Class 5 driver\'s license in good standing.
