Hiring 4x full-time, 2-year term positions, working 75 hours bi-weekly with the possibility of extension

$87,769.48 - $101,768.24

A hiring preference will be applied to qualified candidates of Canadian Indigenous ancestry, with a priority given to qualified Yukon First Nation candidates.

Secondments from Yukon First Nation or other governments will be considered.

The Assessment Officer may work from one of YESAB's six designated office locations, which are:

Dawson City - Haines Junction - Mayo - Teslin - Watson Lake - Whitehorse

Relocation incentives may be available for certain locations

What's YESAB?

The Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB) is an independent body established under the Umbrella Final Agreement and YESAA legislation in 2003. YESAB conducts environmental and socio-economic assessments of projects before they are approved by the governing body. Our purpose is to conduct neutral, timely, efficient, and effective environmental and socio-economic assessments in the Yukon.

Eligibility

An undergraduate degree and/or post-secondary training in environmental science, social science or a similar field of study, or relevant work experience is preferred. General knowledge of the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act, as well as Yukon First Nations and First Nation Agreements, is required. Experience working in a First Nation government is considered an asset.

The Assessment Officer (https://yesab.ca/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/2025-01-Assessment-Officer-Job-Description.pdf), reporting to the Senior Assessment Officer, will be a part of the Assessment Unit. Assessment Officer responsibilities include:

Identifying environmental and socio-economic effects of projects Ensuring that the Senior Assessment Officer is thoroughly briefed on assessment details Ensuring that participants understand the assessment review process and how to best participate in that process Engaging with communities, proponents, the Government of Canada, First Nations, and the Yukon Government Preparing detailed evidence-based recommendation reports that present assessment review outcomes

As part of this process, YESAB may create an eligibility list of candidates who meet the essential qualifications for the position. This list may be used to fill future vacancies within a defined time period. Being placed on the eligibility list does not guarantee an offer of employment.
