The Creative Arts March Break Respite Camp is a day camp for children and youth with physical disabilities and developmental delays. Participants will interact and play through music, visual art, movement and drama. The goal of the program is to enable participants to have fun through creative, sensory and social experiences and to provide respite relief to families during the March Break school holiday (March Break school holiday (March 16-20, 2026). Successful candidates must be flexible to participate in training after business hours or on weekends. Mandatory meetings and training sessions are being held on Friday February 6, 2026 (evening hours), Saturday, March 7 (day time hours) and a full day of prep on Saturday March 14, 2026.
The Story/Drama/Puppetry Artist facilitates Story/Drama/Puppetry, with a partner for rotating groups of children/youth with disabilities supported by staff and volunteers, during the camp day. They are an effective communicator and collaborator and a compassionate leader and team player who enables the creativity, engagement and choice making of the participants. They support and encourage the strengths of participants, staff, and volunteers.
Key Responsibilities

  • To lead drama/story/puppetry activity area with a partner
  • To plan and deliver drama activities and games with the artistic team to accommodate diverse needs of participants
  • Demonstrated ability to enable creativity of others
  • To work with an integrated group of children and youth using various forms of drama/story/puppetry from creation to playing
  • Contribute to planning meetings/initiate/develop program of activities for the week
  • Assist safe participation of clients
  • Supervise lunch/break times of clients as needed
  • Collaborate with program staff, volunteers and families
  • Work as a team member, with Care Team and Artistic Team, in order to ensure programming goals are met
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • BFA or college diploma/certificate in the arts/drama or equivalent
  • Preferred education & experience in drama techniques and training/skills related to children and youth with developmental and acquired disabilities
  • Additional related skill set such as music an asset
  • Minimum of one-year experience in the practice of drama facilitation; 1:1 and group facilitation
  • Demonstrated expertise in planning, implementing and evaluating drama programs
  • Demonstrated ability to encourage full participation in activity area
  • Must be flexible, have the ability to assess the needs of individuals and quickly respond to needs
  • Demonstrated ability to work in collaboration with staff/clients/families
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to efficiently manage working hours
  • Sound judgment, communication and ability to work independently at times
  • Ability to lift, transfer, position, & feed participants ages 4 to 18 independently if needed
  • Ability to guide volunteers and Client Service Assistants
  • Ability to take direction
