We are currently seeking a highly motivated Articling Student to join our team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to appear in court and work alongside experienced lawyers in a dynamic and fast-paced environment gaining invaluable insight into the practice of criminal law.
Responsibilities:
Conduct legal research and analysis of various criminal law issues
Assist in the preparation of legal documents, including factums, briefs, and motions
Represent the firm and its clients at court appearances for which a lawyer is not required; this involves being familiar with many files and understanding next steps
Attending hearings, client meetings, and case conferences
Liaise with clients, Crown Attorneys, and other stakeholders
Provide support to lawyers in case preparation and strategy development
Maintain accurate and organized case files and documentation
Handle administrative tasks as needed to support the efficient operation of the firm
Qualifications:
Completed or currently enrolled in a recognized law school program
Strong academic record with a focus on criminal law courses
Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
Ability to work independently, take initiative and problem-solve
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated commitment to helping people in difficult circumstances
Particular interest in criminal defence
