This is combined technical, operational and building service work performed on an assigned shift in year-round multipurpose sports arenas and food service outlets. The work includes performing routine repairs and minor maintenance duties on refrigeration and ice making equipment; performing unskilled and semi-skilled building maintenance and janitorial tasks; performing building security duties; assisting in or independently enforcing arena rules and regulations governing public skating, hockey spectators and related activities. Considerable independence of judgment and action is exercised within established practices and procedures, with performance reviewed by a supervisor for technical adequacy, conformance to established practices and ability to meet time schedules. Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled building maintenance and minor repair tasks such as touch-up painting, repairing bench slats, tightening loose bolts and door hinges, replacing light covers and fuses, and replacing Plexiglas or tempered glass shields; performs janitorial duties including cleaning floors, windows, offices, rooms, refuse containers and replenishing supplies. Directs the work of part-time subordinate staff as required. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include up to high school graduation plus completion of technical courses leading to an Ice Facility Operator\xe2\x80\x99s Certificate plus sound related experience in ice-making operations and building services work or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in ice-making and refrigeration operations. Sound knowledge of the materials, methods, tools and equipment used in janitorial and building maintenance work. Ability to operate ice-making, refrigeration, and cleaning equipment; to perform routine repairs and minor maintenance duties; and to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff and the public, and to deal tactfully and firmly with groups and individuals to ensure observance of rules and regulations. Skill in the use and care of a variety of tools and equipment used in the work. Required licenses and certificates includes a Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License for the Province of British Columbia, Ice Facility Operator\xe2\x80\x99s Certificate and a St. John\xe2\x80\x99s Emergency First Aid (or equivalent). Arena Ice Maker\xe2\x80\x99s Course Certificate and Building Service Worker Certificate are considered assets.

This position is posted under the terms of the 2023 Inside Memorandum of Agreement to enable the senior capable applicant to be confirmed into the regular full time position, subject to the successful passing of skills tests applicable to this classification, and that they are not subject to a performance management plan, and they have no discipline or recorded safety infractions in the previous eighteen (18) months.
