Reporting to the Manager, Program Operations, the Surface Operator is responsible for operating machinery on a daily basis to ensure that the playing surfaces meet or exceed a high standard for all user groups (e.g., guests, customers and the public). The Surface Operator supports the recreational facilities by ensuring that all facility areas are clean, healthy and are considered safe environments for all. Other functions include the cleaning and maintenance of the playing surface, assisting with the sports Facility, and the set-up and take down for public and private functions.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Perform and supervise the day-to-day activities of the Program Operations department including:

• Supervising and assisting Arena Operators,
• coordinating and delegating tasks for the department,
• Inspect work to ensure it is meeting specifications and standards,
• ensuring equipment and facilities are properly maintained and secured.
• Conduct thorough and proper surface install and maintenance through proper inspections and safe utilization of equipment.
• Setting up and taking down event set ups as per the service order.
• Assisting in general repairs and maintenance of sports surfaces, facilities, and equipment.
• Assisting other trades and engineers.
• Assisting management in planning and preparing employee work schedules \xe2\x80\x93 may be required to participate on the emergency on-call list.
• Investigate and solve customer complaints and concerns with the assistance and support of management while maintaining accurate records of such concerns.
• Performing other duties as allocated.

*This is a casual position and hours are not guaranteed. Schedules will be made according to operational needs.*

Requirements

WHAT IT TAKES

• Completion of grade 12 or equivalent.
• Fireman\xe2\x80\x99s certification is an asset.
• Demonstrated experience in safe operation and maintenance of equipment such as a Zamboni, turf equipment, forklift, scissor lift, or loader.
• Knowledge and experience in ice making and sport surface maintenance.
• Ability to take direction and adapt in a fast-paced work environment.
• Ability to lift, push, and pull over 50 lbs., walk long distances, and remain on your feet for up to 8 hours per day.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license.
• Ability to work independently and as a team.
• Strong decision making and communication skills.
• May work odd or long hours at a time to complete operational requirements, projects or to participate in or coordinate evening and off-hour activities.
• Possess a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check for the duration of employment.
• Note that this position is an in-scope position under the RWDSU Collective Agreement.
