About this opportunity
We currently have an opening for a Structural & Architectural Design Technologist in our Markham office. The successful candidate will have 5+ years of experience. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks and develop your skills in many areas by working with Senior Structural Engineers and other Engineering disciplines. This position will provide you with the opportunities for advancement and career growth. Working with a dynamic, talented team in a collaborative work environment, you will be based out of one of our Ontario operation locations - Markham, Niagara-on-the-Lake, or Kitchener - and will collaborate with staff and deliver projects across Ontario and Canada.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Preparing project drawings and executing designs through the interpretation of technical information and parameters provided by Engineers and Senior Designers for buildings and process / industrial structures / infrastructure projects.
  • Preparing quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimates.
  • Assisting with and preparing contract specifications.
  • Reviewing construction shop drawings and answering RFIs.
  • Providing design development based on Engineer's concepts / guidance is expected.
  • Delivering production work in accordance with company technical and operating procedures.
  • Providing support with respect to a range of activities including both technical and non-technical tasks related to engineering design and project delivery / construction as well as project coordination / management, marketing, and business development.
  • Conducting discipline inspections onsite to confirm condition, measurements, and that the installation meets design intent.
  • Delivering projects and tasks on budget and within identified schedules.
  • Engaging in a collaborative work environment with your team, as well as other disciplines and offices.
  • Providing support to other members of the team.
  • Complying and working within COR certified environment.
  • Performing all duties in accordance with those specified under the Occupational Health & Safety Act and applicable legislation.
Job Requirements

About You
  • Minimum 3-year Diploma in Architectural and/or Structural Engineering Technology from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • 5+ year of progressive building & water retaining architectural and/or structural design experience in Ontario.
  • Proficient in the use of current Revit and Autodesk products (demonstration of these abilities may be required as part of the hiring process).
  • Ability to lead CAD production and direct/coordinate CAD staff with respect to applicable CAD standards.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Ontario Building Code and AODA requirements.
  • Experience working for a consulting engineering firm is an asset.
  • Experience with technical specification development and report writing is an asset.
  • Experience coordinating design and production from multi-discipline team members is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, analytical thinking & problem-solving skills, attention to detail, organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Committed team player and ability to work independently.
  • Valid driver's license is an asset.
  • Ability to travel within Canada.
