Job Description

Architectural Lead - Transit Infrastructure (Ontario)
Permanent Role
EWI are supporting a major international infrastructure contractor in their search for an Architectural Lead to support the design and delivery of a large-scale subway infrastructure program in Ontario. This permanent role offers the opportunity to work on complex underground transit environments, including stations, tunnels interfaces, and supporting facilities, within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
You'll play a key role in coordinating architectural design packages, ensuring integration across structural, mechanical, electrical, systems, and civil disciplines - essential for modern rapid-transit environments.
Key Responsibilities
Architectural Design Leadership

  • Lead the development and coordination of architectural designs for underground stations, entrances, ancillary buildings, and passenger-facing environments.
  • Develop layouts, spatial planning, finishes, wayfinding concepts, and accessibility solutions suitable for high-capacity transit environments.
  • Ensure architectural solutions meet applicable codes, transit design standards, safety requirements, and operational constraints.
Multidisciplinary Coordination
  • Coordinate closely with structural, MEP, fire-life safety, systems, tunnel, and civil teams to resolve interfaces.
  • Participate in technical workshops, design reviews, and collaborative model coordination sessions.
  • Review drawings, BIM models, and specifications for accuracy, integration, and constructability.
Project Delivery Support
  • Assist with design documentation, progress tracking, submission packages, and change management processes.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and design justification materials.
  • Support responses to RFIs, design queries, and construction-related clarifications to maintain design intent.
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Support submittals to authorities and transit agency stakeholders.
  • Communicate architectural considerations clearly to internal teams, contractors, and reviewers.
  • Contribute to internal quality reviews and compliance checks.
Skills & Qualifications
Required:
  • 3-5+ years professional architectural experience, ideally with exposure to infrastructure, large buildings, or complex public-realm projects.
  • Degree in Architecture or a related field; progress toward professional licensure is a strong asset.
  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary coordination (structural, MEP, systems, fire-life safety, code compliance).
  • Proficiency with Revit/BIM and familiarity working in large federated models.
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
Preferred:
  • Experience working on rail, LRT, metro, or underground transit projects.
  • Understanding of emergency egress, station planning, and passenger-flow considerations.
  • Familiarity with North American building codes and transit authority design guidelines.
  • Experience supporting design-build or P3 delivery teams.
What This Role Offers
  • The chance to work on one of Ontario's most significant transit infrastructure programs.
  • Exposure to complex underground design challenges, interdisciplinary coordination, and station architecture.
  • Long-term professional development with clear pathways toward senior design leadership.
  • A stable, permanent opportunity within a project-driven, collaborative team environment.
