Your Opportunity
We are looking to expand our archaeology team and are seeking an Archaeological Field Technician to our team in Whitehorse. This position will start in spring 2024.
In this role, you will be assisting with planning, data collection & analysis, and technical reporting for a variety of field programs. Work will be mainly in the field for spring and summer season but may involve a variety of tasks depending on project requirements.
Work will focus on projects across various service lines in the Yukon, with opportunities to contribute to projects in British Columbia.
Your Key Responsibilities
Participate in identifying and recording areas of archeological potential, archaeological sites, and traditional use sites.
Assist in archaeological monitoring and excavations.
Data collection and data management
Participate in archaeological field assessments.
Working in collaboration with local First Nations.
Actively participate in Stantec\'s HSSE programs.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Able to work in a collaborative team environment and under deadlines in remote wilderness and outdoor settings.
Desire to work closely with other environmental professionals, environmental discipline leads and First Nations.
Excellent technical, communication, writing and organization skills.
Experience in Cultural Resource Management is not required but would be considered an asset.
Willingness to learn identification of traditional use sites & features, CMTs, and lithic artifacts.
Willingness to learn mapping, pedestrian surveys, subsurface testing, excavation, data collection.
Dedicated to following and promoting a strong safety culture.
Willing to travel for work and stay in remote accommodations for up to two weeks at a time.
A valid class 5 driver\'s license is preferred.
Education and Experience
Diploma or degree (in progress or completed) in Anthropology or Archaeology.
Participation in an archaeological field school is seen as an asset.
