Okanagan Mental Health Services Society's •Yard by Yard Program• provides meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with mental health disabilities, helping them build skills and confidence while delivering high-quality lawn care, horticulture, arboriculture, landscaping, irrigation, and snow removal services. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Arborist to join our team and support our mission.

While we do perform tree care, we are not a company that focuses exclusively on large tree work. The majority of our work involves hedge trimming, shrub pruning, and tree care such as pruning, installation and establishment, and structural young tree training with less emphasis on large-scale tree work.

Position Overview

The Arborist Crew Lead is responsible for tree care, pruning, and hedge and shrub maintenance for residential and commercial properties. This role requires expertise in arboriculture practices, safe work techniques, and the ability to mentor and support program participants while maintaining high service standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Prune, trim, and shape trees, hedges, and shrubs to promote healthy growth and aesthetic appeal.

- Safely operate chainsaws, pruning tools, and other arboricultural equipment.

- Train, mentor, and support participants in developing arboricultural and shrub maintenance skills.

- Ensure all work is completed efficiently and to a high standard.

- Perform tree planting, removals, and stump grinding as required.

- Adhere to safety regulations and best practices for tree and hedge maintenance.

- Communicate with customers and management to coordinate job scheduling and completion.

- Perform snow removal as required, including shoveling and de-icing from November 1st to March 31st.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Certified Arborist designation (ISA or equivalent) preferred.

- Experience in tree, hedge, and shrub trimming, pruning, and maintenance.

- Ability to work with and support individuals with mental health disabilities.

- Strong organizational and communication skills.

- Knowledge of tree care best practices, equipment operation, and safety procedures.

- Valid driver's license and clean driving record preferred.

- Able to perform outdoor manual labor in various weather conditions.

- Participate in winter snow removal operations.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Seasonal

Pay: $29.00-$34.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 - 40 per week
