Position Overview:

Reporting to the Manager of Recreation, the Supervisor of Aquatics is responsible for overseeing the Aquatic Centre operation at Elevation Place. This position is responsible for setting the direction for a diverse team, while cultivating a culture of wellness, respect, integrity, service, and teamwork. This position is also responsible for maintaining the consistent delivery of high-quality indoor aquatic experiences which take into consideration multi-use and the needs of residents and visitors. The Aquatics Supervisor is a member of the Recreation Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the strategic direction of recreation services for the Town of Canmore. As a member of the Recreation Services leadership team, the Supervisor of Aquatics will oversee the Aquatics leadership and operations team, providing daily direction and operational objectives. Set the strategic direction to implement a diverse range of aquatic programs that cater to the needs of the community.


This position will require an in-person presence to perform the assigned tasks associated with the role. Therefore, this will not be a hybrid eligible position. The ideal person for this position is someone who has a strong background in building community, creating safe and welcoming spaces, enhancing quality of life and increasing participation in recreation programs and services. The ideal candidate will be an active leader with a collaborative work style, effective organizational skills, outstanding conflict resolution skills, demonstrate a high degree of business acumen, and must have excellent relationship skills.


Core Accountabilities:


Provides the leadership, training and technical guidance required to ensure the smooth operations of the Aquatics Business Unit in the Recreation Department Knowledgeable of all rules and regulations associated with public aquatic facilities, including proper pool operation, lifeguard training and certification, and risk management Participates in daily operations of the team, working together with the team members as required Research best practices, technologies and equipment that will enhance business unit operations Researches and implements initiatives that reduce our organization's impact on the environment Ensures timely and accurate submission of reports and operational documentation Assists the Manager of Recreation with operational budget creation and monitoring Is generally knowledgeable about all Town of Canmore services Is up to date with aquatic industry best practices and how to adapt them to our organizational and business environment Proficiently and efficiently uses computer operating systems, software, and applications such as MS Office and Dayforce Follows established standard operating procedures for safety, customer service, and effective operations Ensures client information is safeguarded and confidentiality is maintained Anticipates sensitive issues and plans an appropriate strategy Maintains current certification and is knowledgeable in water safety, first aid, and CPR



Education & Certifications:


National Lifeguard Pool Award and Intermediate First Aid certifications -

required

Swim & Lifesaving Society Instructor certifications -

required

Lifesaving First Aid Instructor and National Lifeguard Instructor certifications -

required

Lifesaving Society Trainer certifications -

required

CPR and First Aid certification -

required

Diploma or other post-secondary education in Recreation, Sports Management, or a related field -

preferred

Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License -

asset

Pool Operator Level I and Level II certifications -

asset

AFLA/CALA Fitness or other specialty certifications -

asset




Experience:


Minimum of 3 years' supervisory experience in Aquatics -

required

Knowledge of swimming pool operations and aquatics programming -

required

Knowledge of local government or public sector practices and procedures -

asset

Experience in a municipal setting, delivering programs and service for residents, members, and visitors -

preferred

Demonstrated ability to lead a culture of wellness, respect, integrity, service and teamwork -

required

Experience developing and maintaining positive relationships with staff, coworkers, customers, and community groups -

required

Organizational habits to understand, realistically plan for and meet deadlines, while adapting to changing demands and priorities -

required

Demonstrated success managing conflict -

required

Proficiency with Microsoft office programs, with the ability to independently create and edit documents -

required

Experience with Intelligenz Recreation and Facilities Management Software -

asset

Demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly in English -

required

Willingness to work a variety of shift times and hours including evenings and weekends based on the departmental operations -

required





Salary and Benefits:


Pay Range- $99,208.20 - $104, 722.80 annually.
