As an Aquatics Coordinator, you'll ensure excellence in all aquatics programs and help create a safe, welcoming, and high-quality experience for our members. You'll play a key role in supporting staff and volunteers, maintaining program standards, and shaping the next generation of confident swimmers and aquatics leaders, while reporting reporting to the Aquatics Supervisor.

The Peter Gilgan YMCA, 410 Rebecca Street, Oakville, Ontario



Hours of work:

Full-time, 35 hours per week, scheduled Sunday-Thursday with two evening shifts

Responsibilities:



Program & Administrative Leadership

Support staff in developing high-quality lesson plans with a strong focus on safety and consistency. Assist with daily pool log sheets, opening/closing procedures, pool deck cleanliness, and Health & Safety checklists. Review and maintain standards for swimming report cards, providing feedback to instructors. Manage swim lesson rosters -- adding/removing participants and overseeing updates as the Lesson Facilitator. Monitor safety during all aquatics activities, responding promptly to concerns. Recruit, interview, and onboard Aquatics volunteers; complete hiring paperwork, schedule shifts, track monthly volunteer hours, and report to HR. Support volunteer transitions to staff as certifications are completed.

Leadership, Coaching & Staff Development

Assist in hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management of the aquatics team. Provide support in delivering CPR, First Aid, AED, and Lifesaving Society certification courses. Serve as an LSS Examiner for leadership courses as required. Ensure programs meet YMCA standards, Health & Safety regulations, Shine On expectations, and Ontario Public Pool Regulations. Participate in program leadership, in-service training, and teaching lifesaving leadership courses. Help secure shift coverage and step in to teach classes when needed.

Member Engagement, Sales & Retention

Build positive relationships with staff, volunteers, members, and families. Support swim lesson waitlists -- contacting members, offering solutions, and ensuring accuracy. Look for opportunities to grow programs and enhance member experience. Reach out to current and past members to promote upcoming sessions and open spots. Build strong community connections to increase interest and participation in swim programs. Represent the YMCA professionally and model our core values in all interactions.

Requirements:



Post-secondary education or diploma in a related field Minimum 3 years' experience in the aquatics field Standard First Aid with CPR-C & AED National Lifeguard certification Lifesaving Instructor or YMCA Swim Instructor certification Strong communication and interpersonal skills Clear Police Security Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

Desirable requirements

LSS Instructor and Examiner Bronze Examiner First Aid Instructor and Examiner YMCA Aquafit or Fitness Instructor certification Previous experience as a Coordinator or Team Lead
