Your Opportunity

Stantec has an opportunity for a junior aquatic scientist to join our aquatics team in Burnaby, British Columbia.The ideal candidate has experience completing field work in freshwater and marine environments and familiarity with construction environmental monitoring. Previous consulting experience is an asset, as is marine mammal observation.

As an aquatic scientist, you will conduct exciting work with multi-disciplinary teams on varied projects across Canada. You will also provide sound advice to clients, regulators, and Stantec team members. Your Key Responsibilities

Independent field work as an environmental monitor under supervision from experienced team members

Collaborative field work for freshwater or marine fisheries, aquatic resources, or water quality field work

Manage and interpret field data

Use specialized field equipment and software

Understand and communicate construction environmental management plans

Write technical memorandums

Support development of proposals

Actively participate in Stantec\'s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment Program to promote a strong health and safety culture at work and at home

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Experience

Understanding of how water influences biological communities

Completing field work under leadership from a more experience crew lead

Follow Stantec safe work practices for field programs

Follow established standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines to complete assignments

Analyzing data (statistical experience and experience using R are an asset)

Writing clear, concise and accurate reports

Willingness to travel for project work

Strong interpersonal and social skills, and ability to interact across a broad range of audiences/ technical backgrounds, including internal and external clients and regulatory agencies

Excellent time management and organizational skills

Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 23 kg (i.e., carrying field equipment and samples)

Education and Experience

Applicants must be registered, or be eligible to register, with the British Columbia College of Applied Biology as an RPBio, BIT, RBTech, or RBTech in training, or with another professional organization.

A minimum of a Bachelor\'s degree and one year of experience or technical diploma and 2-3 years of experience related to aquatics and/or environmental monitoring.

Technical coursework in environmental monitoring is an asset. Relevant consulting experience is an asset.

Typical office environment involves working with computers and remaining relatively sedentary. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Stantec offers a flexible work arrangement for desk-

based tasks, combining home-based and office-based time.
