About Us
Sustainable Blue is a land-based aquaculture facility located in Centre Burlington, Hants County, Nova Scotia. We grow Atlantic salmon using a proprietary water treatment technology which emits zero waste back to the environment. Our farm is comprised of both freshwater and saltwater buildings, where we raise our salmon from egg to market weight. The farm operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Sustainable Blue is fully committed to clean and responsible aquaculture practices which leave behind only a minimal footprint on the local environment and ecology. We are an actively expanding company, and are therefore looking to add multiple passionate and dedicated individuals to our diverse team of land-based fish farmers.
Available Positions (2 roles, multiple positions) \xe2\x80\x93 Aquaculture Technician & Aquaculture Supervisor
Full training provided. Aquaculture Technician Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring water quality parameters in an aquaculture environment
  • Performing standard daily checks and routines in the production buildings (e.g. feeding fish, cleaning tanks, mortality removal, etc.)
  • Carrying out fish husbandry operations including pumping, grading, sorting & harvesting as part of the production team
  • Cleaning and organising the production building areas
  • Verbal and written reporting to Supervisors

Required Experience & Skills:
  • Certificate or some form of training in aquaculture and/or animal science (preferred)
  • Experience and/or a passion for working with fish or salmonids (preferred)
  • Problem solving using logical, structured thinking
  • Capable of handling physical tasks including lifting up to 50lbs & bending
  • Care and attention to detail

Schedule: Monday \xe2\x80\x93 Friday 08:00 to 16:30. Working through public holidays is a requirement of the job. Remuneration: During training: $37,500 p.a. paid bi-weekly, less statutory deductions.
Aquaculture Supervisor Responsibilities (in addition to those outlined for the above Technician position):
  • Supervision of fish husbandry operations including pumping, grading, sorting & harvesting
  • Operation of advanced water treatment systems and technology
  • Promptly reporting any maintenance issues to our Maintenance team
  • Verbal and written reporting to our Management team
  • Record-keeping
Required Experience & Skills:
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (preferred)
  • Certificate or some form of training in aquaculture and/or animal science (preferred)
  • Experience and/or passion for working with fish or salmonids (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise a team in a production setting
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask
  • Experience working in fast-paced, high stakes environments
  • Effective communicator
  • Problem solving using logical, structured thinking
  • Capable of handling physical tasks including lifting up to 50lbs & bending
  • Consistent care and attention to detail
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
Schedule:
Monday \xe2\x80\x93 Friday 08:00 to 16:30 during 3-month probationary period. With successful completion of probationary period & internal training syllabus, the position changes to 4 days on (08:00 to 16:30), of which you would spend 2 nights as a team of 2 employees responding to any emergency alarms that occur overnight, followed by 4 days and nights off. Weekend working and working through public holidays is a requirement of the job.
Remuneration:
During training: $46,500 p.a. paid bi-weekly, less statutory deductions.
Upon completion of training: $62,275 p.a. paid bi-weekly, less statutory deductions.
Benefits
The company has a medical benefit plan in place where the company and the employee share plan costs on a 50/50 basis. New staff are required to serve a three-month probationary period before being eligible to join the plan.
