Join our mining maintenance team as an Apprentice Welder and build your career in one of the most dynamic and essential industries. You'll work alongside experienced tradespeople who maintain and repair heavy mining equipment, structural components, and critical site infrastructure. This is a practical, high?skill apprenticeship that will set you up for long-term success in the mining sector and other heavy industries.
Key Responsibilities
Support qualified welders and maintenance personnel with daily repair and fabrication tasks
Learn and perform welding techniques used in mining maintenance, including FCAW & SMAW welding, and gouging
Assist with repairs to heavy equipment, chutes, conveyors, bucket lips, frames, and other mine-site components
Prepare and clean metal surfaces, set up tools and welding equipment, and safely handle materials
Follow all site safety procedures, including PPE requirements, isolation procedures, and hazard reporting
Maintain a clean and organized workshop and work area
Conduct basic quality checks on completed work
What You'll Learn
Mining-specific welding and fabrication techniques
Safe operation of welding gear, hand tools, grinders, and cutting equipment
Equipment repair processes on haul trucks, loaders, crushers, and fixed plant components
Reading and interpreting technical drawings and work orders
Best practices in mine-site safety, risk assessment, and safe work procedures
Qualifications & Attributes
Strong interest in welding, fabrication, and heavy industry
Must be enrolled or willing to enroll in a welding apprenticeship program
Willingness to learn and follow direction in a fast-paced environment
Good physical fitness and ability to work in varied site conditions
Reliable, safety-focused, and committed to developing trade skills
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
Ability to pass pre-employment checks (drug/alcohol testing)
