Position and Responsibilities

As Cameco continues to seek ways to build meaningful long-term relationships and create a more diverse and equitable workforce, we are offering apprenticeship opportunities to our Saskatchewan northern communities. Cameco is committed to support and develop our future workforce with building careers in the trades. As such, our Cigar Lake Operation is seeking individuals interested in the Saskatchewan apprenticeship program in the areas of Heavy Duty Mechanic, Millwright or Pipefitter.

Working with an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic journeyperson, your responsibilities will include:

  • Servicing and maintaining all heavy equipment on either surface or underground as specified by preventative maintenance work orders.
  • Performing preventative maintenance inspections and lubrications.
  • Troubleshooting equipment failures, complete overhauls and conduct repair work as required.
Working with an experienced Millwright journeyperson, your responsibilities will include:
  • Performing predictive and preventative maintenance checks on a regular basis to ensure safe and reliable production.
  • Completing repairs and overhauls on equipment and piping systems on surface and underground and learn to perform basic welding repairs.
  • Troubleshooting equipment failures and documenting repairs.
Working with an experienced Pipefitter journeyperson, your responsibilities will include:
  • Inspecting, installing, maintaining, repairing and testing of all chemical, slurry, water, gas, and high-pressure piping systems on site ensuring completed work meets all codes.
  • This includes all process areas on surface and underground, mining services distribution systems, surface mine buildings, camps, and fuel storage.
Through on-the-job training, hands on experience and technical education/training, you will be expected to progress to a fully qualified journeyperson.

Applicants considered for these positions must submit a copy of the grade 12 or equivalent transcript and will be required to complete a series of educational and competency-based assessments.

Education and Qualifications

Requirements of the position:
  • Possess a grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Meet all qualification standards to be accepted for a training apprenticeship by the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC)
  • Work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft
The Cigar Lake apprenticeship positions are only open to Residents of Saskatchewan\'s North (RSN) from the Black Lake, Fond du Lac and Hatchet Lake First Nations and the communities of Stony Rapids, Uranium City, Camsell Portage and Wollaston Lake, as outlined in the Collaboration Agreements.
