We are currently seeking Apprentice Radio Technicians. These positions are on a 40-hour work-week, involving rotating shifts and off-days. The reporting locations will vary as dictated by management. Successful candidates will be registered with the Ontario College of Trades. Upon successful completion of the training program, you will be classified as a Radio Technician, (Grade 1) in Wage Group 13.

What You Will Do

As an apprentice, you will follow and must successfully complete a training program involving progressively more complex electrical/electronic work for the installation, testing, maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, inspection, and repair of a variety of electrical/electronic communications equipment such as fixed and mobile radio systems, car to wayside systems, digital video recording equipment, closed circuit T.V., inter-office communication sets, public address systems, fire and burglar alarms, audio recording devices, pagers, etc. Utilize sophisticated test equipment such as Radio and System analyzers, to troubleshoot and diagnose faults in complex solid state circuitry with varying power supplies and voltages Treat passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensure the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within the area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service provider and an employer The work may be carried out in a shop/yard environment, on vehicles, in subway stations and tunnels or at any Commission property where repairs may be required.

What Skills and Qualifications Do You Bring?

Training normally obtained through completion of a Community College graduation diploma (minimum 2 years) in the field of electronics Must pass the Plant Maintenance Department's communications test Must have a valid non-probationary class "G" Driver's license As a successful candidate, you will be required to attend and successfully complete the Training & Development Department's program for the operation of a Commission vehicle Must also attend and successfully complete training course for C.P.R., W.H.M.I.S, and Subway/SRT Rule Book training Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Canadian Fire Alarm Association certificate As a successful candidate, you will be registered with the Ontario College of Trades as an Electronics Service Technician Have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
