SUMMARY OF POSITION

Kimberly-Clark\'s goal is to help apprentices complete their training, pass their Certificate of Qualification examinations (where applicable) and become a fully certified Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A). The Industrial Mechanic Millwright is a red seal (interprovincially recognized) trade administered by Skilled Trades Ontario. Qualified individuals may obtain a Certificate of Qualification, which confirms its holder has the skills, knowledge and experience that meet industry standards of practice for the trade.

Industrial Mechanic Millwrights at Kimberly Clark work on machinery which requires a wide variety of trade skills such as mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and lubrication using tools such as lathes, milling machines, welders, presses, alignment equipment etc. Millwrights install and maintain generic equipment such as pumps, fans, tanks, and conveyors as well as specialty equipment for the tissue industry like paper machines, and high-speed packaging equipment.

In order to complete an apprenticeship training program in the trade, individuals must apply to register their apprenticeship with Skilled Trades Ontario and enter into a training agreement with an identified "sponsor". Kimberly-Clark will serve as the sponsor for the successful candidate.

Upon completing an apprenticeship, the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development will issue an individual a Certificate of Apprenticeship. Upon passing the trade\'s certification examination and meeting all requirements, Skilled Trades Ontario will issue a Certification of Qualification.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Industrial Mechanic Millwright Apprentice will take work direction & will learn from the assigned Trainer(s) and complete all assigned duties including:

  • Being responsible for safe, efficient operation of equipment and basic quality surrounding the process
  • Performing preventative maintenance checks and subsequently uses tools, machines, equipment and rigging and hoisting to facilitate preventative maintenance, installation, removal and repairs of equipment
  • Installing and repairing pumps and filters
  • Performing major machine overhauls and changeovers as well as basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
  • Reading and troubleshooting blueprints
  • Safely operate machinery and equipment such as a lathe and perform processes such as milling, sheet metal work, pipefitting, and plumbing
  • Performing various reparation processes such as welding, basic rigging, oil/vibration analysis, fabrication, and basic machining
  • Working with different mill teams to maintain, repair, and utilize various machinery and systems such as cooling and exhaust systems, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, fans, agitators, etc.
  • Using a computerized maintenance system to identify work, plan assigned work, maintain equipment repair and preventative maintenance history
  • Work both day and night shift and flex schedule based on business needs

  • Available for "call ins" to support business objectives
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Industrial environment (noise, dust, moving equipment, fluctuating temperatures etc.) May include prolonged periods of standing, along with bending, reaching, lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs, PPE, heights and confined spaces
  • Scheduled hours may vary based on 24/7 operation of the mill

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Registration and participation in the apprenticeship program with Skilled Trades Ontario
SELECTION CRITERIA
  • To be considered, applicant must submit an updated resume along with a 1-2 page typed (single spaced) summary of why you want to pursue your trade ticket
  • Acceptable safety performance (no safety writeups within the last 12 months)
  • Acceptable attendance within the last 12 months.
  • Not currently on a performance action plan
  • No written (non-attendance) warnings within the last 12 months
  • Preference will be given to internal candidates that wish to earn their first trade ticket, followed by those wishing to earn their second and external candidates
  • Interviews will be performed by HR (Human Resources) and could include trade mentor &/or Maintenance leader
  • Interviews may include a mechanical aptitude test
