Commercial, Industrial, and/or Solar Experience an asset.
As a Construction Electrician Apprentice at GCI you will gain the knowledge, hands on training and experience to install, alter, repair and maintain electrical systems designed to provide heat, light, power, control, signal &/or fire alarms for all types of buildings, structures and premises, including solar.
These positions are best suited for professional, technical, and mechanically proficient people. It is a physically demanding job that involves working from heights, crawling, climbing, and standing for extended periods of time. The ability to confidently use tools is a necessity.
Skills you will be trained for - in general but not limited to:
Read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings, specifications, and applicable codes to determine wiring layouts
Cut, thread, bend, assemble and install conduits, tray, and other types of electrical conductor enclosures and fittings
Pull wire through conduits and holes in walls and floors
Position, maintain and install distribution and control equipment such as switches, relays, circuit breaker panels and fuse enclosures
Install, replace, maintain, and repair electrical systems and related electrical equipment
Install data cabling
Splice, join and connect wire to form circuits
Test circuits to ensure integrity and safety
Install and maintain fibre optic systems and
Install, replace, maintain, and repair electrical generation sources and related equipment
Knowledge in renewable energy is an asset (e.g. wind/solar)
Ability to work both as a team member and alone to complete projects
Observe and implement GCI Safety Procedures and Protocols
Comply with GCI Safety Procedures and Protocols
Knowledge of electrical safety codes and regulations
Perform quality testing and inspections
Test and measure voltage, loads, ground faults integrity of circuits
Ground and bond electrical equipment, systems, and structures
Install, replace, and repair electrical controls and panel boxes
Install surface mount and/or overhead cables
Troubleshoot and isolate faults
Renovate electrical systems
Install underground wiring and cables
Various fabrication and construction tasks as required
Education / Safety Certification Requirements:
AIT registered apprentice
CSTS
WHMIS2015
Standard First Aid CPR/AED
Energy Safety Canada Fall Protection
AWP Ticket is an asset
