Based in Nanaimo, B.C., Makon Projects is a locally owned, full-service general contracting company specializing in commercial, institutional, industrial, and multi-residential construction projects across Vancouver Island. We are currently looking for a Carpenter Apprentice to join our growing team and contribute to the success of our exciting projects on the Island.

Makon Projects Ltd. is seeking a Apprentice Carpenter who lives locally in the Greater Victoria area to work on a project located in Metchosin, BC. As an Apprentice Carpenter, you will have the ability to construct, erect, install, maintain and repair structures and components of structures made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials. You are expected to be detail oriented and be knowledgeable on different carpentry materials. You must have the ability to work with a team, as well as independently. The Apprentice Carpenter must be able to work under pressure, and meet required deadlines.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Assist a journeyman carpenter with construction and remodeling projects Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements Prepare layouts conforming to building codes, using measuring tools Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware Use hand and power tools daily Learn and practice essential carpentry skills on the job Maintain a safe work environment Set up and maintain tools for your supervising carpenter Stand-in First Aid Attendant

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or GED certificate First Aid Certificate Strong math skills Familiarity with common power and hand tools Experience in construction is an asset

Pay: $24.00-$30.00 per hour
