Job Description

The Carpenter Apprentice supports our carpentry team in the construction, renovation, and installation of residential and commercial projects. This role works closely with senior carpenters to learn and develop carpentry skills while assisting with day-to-day tasks on job sites and in the workshop. Responsibilities include measuring, cutting, and assembling materials; preparing and maintaining work areas; operating hand and power tools safely; and supporting the team in delivering high-quality craftsmanship.

The ideal candidate is eager to learn, reliable, safety-minded, and able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. As the apprentice progresses, they will take on increasingly advanced carpentry tasks and contribute to building exceptional spaces for our clients.

What We Do:

At our design-build firm, we specialize in residential projects, while also operating our own millwork shop that caters to both residential and commercial/industrial needs. Our expertise lies in renovations, additions, and custom homes, encompassing various areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, basements, exteriors, custom millwork and more.

Job Duties:



Provide reliable vehicle with insurance and/or reliable transportation to variable work sites. Input time sheets electronically on a daily basis. Set up power cords, drop sheets, poly doors and walls, tools, ladders where needed. Take inventory of supply items (poly/garbage bags etc.) and advise Lead Carpenter that items need to be topped up. Unload materials and organize proper storage. Learn the proper, safe way to use tools. Learn the proper and safe way to clean and maintain tools. Clean and maintain tools daily- all company tools and any shared Lead Carpenter tools. Listen and Prioritize tasks given by lead carpenter and complete all tasks successfully. Take the initiative to see what needs to be done on site and do it. Learn proper construction methods from Lead carpenter. Demonstrate skills - in the safe operation of hand of power tools, to include (but not limited to) temporary generators, ladders, table saws, routers and sanding equipment. Erecting and disassembly of scaffolding Assists with demolition and debris disposal. Familiarity in preparing material take-offs and reading blueprints. Set up and take down poly containment and drop sheets to accommodate work. Basic to intermediate experience in installation of insulation and vapor barrier Basic to intermediate experience in wood and steel stud framing application Basic to intermediate experience in finish carpentry skills including cutting and installing wood framing, trim, baseboard, casing, doors, frames and sheathing. Assists with the building, erection and securing of temporary and permanent partitions using a variety of building materials. Construct and secure temporary and permanent partitions. Work under time constraints to meet specific timelines. Ensure attention to detail and keen sense of safeguarding other people's property and information. Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of safety principles and practices; follows all safety policies and procedures to support a safe working environment, including safe operation of machines and equipment. Comply with all Clay policies and procedures, as well as legislative requirements Proactively communicate job site conditions and concerns that may or are affecting completion of the job to the appropriate person. Attend all Clay sponsored training courses, and events.

Physical Demands:



Frequent lifting from 5-40 lbs, unassisted (from 35-65% of the time) Occasional lifting from 41 lbs +, assisted (up to 50% of the time) Access and mobility in tight spaces Fit Testing - half and full-face mask as needed, annual certification required Working at Heights - over 5 feet, periodically Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00-$22.00 per hour

Work Location: On the road
