The Digital Forensics Section requires a self-motivated individual to ensure the proper handling and extraction of electronic devices, supporting the Technological Crimes Unit - Digital Forensic Services. Roles and responsibilities include:
Ensuring the proper handling and extraction of electronic devices while preserving data integrity through detailed note-taking and formal report generation. Producing and verifying accurate forensic copies of electronic storage devices for examination and analysis.
Determining the most appropriate methods for collecting, preserving, analyzing, and retaining original evidence.
Liaising with requesting investigators and reviewing electronic requests.
Accurately assessing judicial authorizations to ensure the units assistance is supported by lawful authority.
Providing technical assistance to investigators in preparing warrants specific to their investigations.
Maintaining all required documentation to support the Unit's forensic and investigative processes.
Effectively communicating with all levels of the Edmonton Police Service, as well as with other law enforcement, government, and civilian agencies, as directed by the Sergeant in charge of the Technological Crimes Unit (TCU).
Provide support and guidance to investigators in the review process of digital evidence prepared by the TCU Forensic Examiner.
Responsible for administrative tasks such as restocking supplies, printing, organizing and maintaining equipment.
Qualifications
:Degree in a related discipline and one (1) year of relevant experience OR Post secondary diploma in a related discipline and two (2) years relevant experience OR one (1) year related certificate and four (4) years relevant experience.
Minimum of five (5) years of police experience would be considered an asset.
IT or digital forensic certifications such as CompTIA A+, Linux+, Network+, CFCE, or GCFE preferred.
Familiarity with Linux, Windows, and forensic tools (e.g., Cellebrite, Magnet, X-Ways).
Demonstrated high personal work standards, along with strong time management, organizational, and analytical skills.
Experience with complex investigations and digital forensic analysis preferred.
Above-average knowledge and proficiency in computing hardware, software, operating systems, file systems, and digital data storage.
Able to rapidly acquire in-depth knowledge of unfamiliar systems through research and self-learning.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Strong interpersonal, customer service, teamwork, problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
Highly self-motivated with the proven ability to work independently to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a mission critical high-pressure environment.
Able to perform the physical requirements of the job, including lifting up to 35 kilograms.
Hours of Work:
33.75 hours per week, 0800 - 1600 hours Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program. Incumbents must be available for call-out outside of these hours on a rotational basis.
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
