Application Engineering Co-Op (4 month Summer term. May-Aug 2023)

Description

This dual customer/product focused position serves in support of Cummins Application Engineers who serve as the technical liaison between OEMs and represents our customers during new product development programs. Applying Cummins\xe2\x80\x99 products to customer vehicles requires the development of technical specifications, implementing new design configurations, and delivering high performance, low-cost equipment and system solutions integrated with customers\xe2\x80\x99 products in a variety of applications. Integrating high quality and optimized customer solutions requires the interaction with sales and marketing teams.

Works in conjunction with Cummins Application Engineers to:

• Work with customer engineers to ensure the engine is installed correctly in the machine, including mechanical, cooling, electrical, and electronics
• Troubleshooting of installation problems, and engine fault codes
• Answer customer\xe2\x80\x99s questions and concerns regarding the engine, and/or discuss the questions with engineers at Cummins Inc.
• Optimize engine features and performance to suit customers\xe2\x80\x99 needs
• Perform installation reviews (IQAs) of new engine installations, to ensure they meet Cummins requirements and guidelines.
• Travel to customer locations for meetings, troubleshooting, and installation reviews

Qualifications

-Engineering Student (Mechanical/Electrical/related)

-Thorough understanding of diesel engine operation, components, and sub-systems a benefit

-Theoretical and practical knowledge of diesel engines

-Background in mechanical engineering, combustion, mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical and electronics, and data acquisition

-Must have a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license (driver\xe2\x80\x99s abstract may be required)

-Ability to learn new information and share knowledge with others

-Strong computer aptitude; experience with Microsoft Office

-Mechanical Design experience is an asset

-Computer design familiarity

-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

-Excellent customer application-service focus

-Excellent organizational skills

-Excellent presentation skills

-Ability to multi-task, work under pressure

-Ability to travel-Self-starter, demonstrated energy and enthusiasm

-Flexibility in hours

-Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Engineering is required.

-This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

-Prior engineering co-op / equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is an asset.

-Knowledge of MS Office tools is required.
