Salary Range: SP2, Level 4, $72,080 - $90,100 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

The Opportunity

The Regulatory Applications branch of the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is seeking an Application Analyst to join our Eligibility, Transfers, and Security (ETS) team. As an Application Analyst you will evaluate eligibility, transfer, and security applications under various directives and acts to ensure compliance and end-of-life obligations for eligible non-mining licensees. The ETS team operates with efficiency and autonomy, emphasizing logical decision-making and recommendations. You will participate in the acquisition and divestiture of oil and gas assets in Alberta, with significant licensee interaction. You will play a vital role in supporting and developing the implementation of the liability management framework by the AER.

What your day-to-day will look like:

• 
  Evaluate first time licensee eligibility applications under Directive 067 to ensure regulatory requirements are met, request any required supplemental information, make recommendations for decisions including determination of any conditions and/or security, collect and process security, and manage approval conditions to ensure compliance.
• 
  Evaluate licence transfer applications under Directive 088 to ensure regulatory requirements are met, request any required supplemental information, make recommendations for decisions including determination of any conditions and/or security, collect and process security, and manage approval conditions to ensure compliance.
• 
  Evaluate security refund requests under Directive 068 to ensure regulatory requirements are met, request any required supplemental information, analyze, make recommendations for decisions and process approved security refunds.
• 
  Communicate process and procedure for all ETS functions to internal and external stakeholders to ensure understanding and compliance.
• 
  Provide subject matter expertise on enterprise projects or tasks, including action requests, hearings, and projects.

What we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for in you:

• 
  Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in science, arts or a related field. A Degree or certification in Hydrocarbon development science (geology, economics, engineering) is considered an asset.
• 
  3-5 years experience in customer service, analytical, or regulatory roles.
• 
  Fulsome understanding of the Liability Management Framework and risk management in relation to energy development.
• 
  Proven ability to manage varying responsibilities, conflicting priorities, and deliver results in a deadline driven environment.
• 
  Strong emotional intelligence with demonstrated empathic stakeholder engagement abilities.
• 
  SEC1 - This position will be subject to pre-employment background screening, including a criminal record check.
