Your role

At CBC Studios, we are always on the lookout to hire new casual talent. Currently, we are looking for a Media Technician to work with us in Toronto. Please note these are casual (temporary, on-call) opportunities and shifts may include being assigned to work flexible hours, including early mornings, late nights and weekends.

As a Generalist, performs tasks required in the sound, picture and lighting crafts. Creative problem solving may be required to generate aural or visual outputs where requirements are clear. Work is generally performed according to accepted CBC/Radio-Canada or industry standards but assignments may require independent action, judgment and initiative as well as consultation with other program, production or technical personnel.

Main responsibilities:

  • Provides assistance required in the production and transmission of programming, including gathering, transportation, storage, set-up, dismantling and maintenance of production equipment or facilities.
  • Selects tools and ensures that facilities and materials are available to meet requirements.
  • Performs simple operating functions using production equipment and tools.
  • Suggests and devises special audio, visual or lighting effects to meet program requirements and operates tools to produce such effects.
  • Ensures the proper operating condition of tools by making the necessary checks, adjustments according to standard procedures.
  • Contributes ideas and makes recommendations to overcome problems or achieve desired results.
  • Maintains materials, equipment and tools in a state suitable and available for use by repairing, cleaning, treating or replacing them. Reports on their quality or state of readiness.
  • Performs all or part of the function or duties of an equivalent classification.
Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following:
  • You possess a basic level of technical and craft knowledge, and understanding of television program production methods including sound, picture, and lighting craft functions.
  • Community college graduate in Media Production, or 3 years equivalent industry experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • A proven work ethic and a positive team-first attitude.
  • Strong safety awareness on and off set.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible, irregular hours, depending on the assignment.
