Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced API 653 Tank Inspector to join our growing integrity inspection team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing aboveground storage tank inspections in accordance with API 653, ensuring compliance with client, regulatory, and CANEIL standards.
This position involves extensive field travel throughout Canada and the United States, with all travel expenses, accommodations, per diems, and logistics fully covered by CANEIL. You will collaborate closely with our engineers, technicians, and project managers on a variety of inspection programs--ranging from baseline and in-service inspections to advanced laser-based dimensional surveys and floor scanning for corrosion and settlement analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Perform inspections of aboveground storage tanks in accordance with API 653, API 650, API 570, and related codes.
Conduct floor plate corrosion scans using magnetic flux leakage (MFL) scanners and other inspection technologies.
Carry out dimensional and settlement surveys using total stations, laser levels, and 3D laser scanning tools.
Interpret and review NDE results (UT, MFL, MT, PT, etc.) to support integrity assessments and repair recommendations.
Prepare detailed inspection reports and digital documentation using CANEIL's standardized templates and data systems.
Support engineering evaluations related to fitness-for-service (FFS), shell-to-floor corrosion, and settlement analysis.
Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, including OH&S, OSHA, and PHMSA CFR 195/40 CFR 112.
Coordinate with internal project managers and engineers to manage schedules, client communication, and deliverables.
Qualifications & Experience
Valid API 653 Certification (required).
ASNT Level II (or higher) certifications in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) strongly preferred.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience performing API 653 inspections for refineries, terminals, or pipeline facilities.
Strong working knowledge of MFL floor scanners and other corrosion detection equipment.
Experience operating survey and measurement tools, including total stations, laser levels, and 3D laser scanners.
Familiarity with API 650, API 570, and NBIC RB codes is an asset.
Excellent technical reporting and communication skills.
Valid passport and ability to travel frequently within Canada and the U.S. (required).
Valid Class 5 Driver's License and clean driving record.
