The Department of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and Human Rights promotes principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion at UPEI. We are responsible for supporting the strategic direction towards advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion within the University community by monitoring the progress of the UPEI Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategy, and providing leadership to the University to ensure equity, diversity, inclusion, and human rights obligations and goals are being met. The Office also ensures that training and resources are available to faculty, staff, and students at UPEI.Reporting to the Director of Department of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and Human Rights, the Anti-Racism and Cultural Diversity Project Officer will play a critical role in supporting the department\'s mandate by developing and delivering initiatives that support the embedment of anti-racist, equity-minded and inclusive practices using trauma-informed and anti-oppressive lens across campus.What we offer:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Play a leadership role in the development and implementation of a campus anti-racism policy
  • Providing advice and input into strategic planning initiatives related to anti-racism and cultural diversity
  • Using an intersectional approach to coordinate the implementation of institutional strategic plan action items related to anti-racism and cultural diversity by developing programming, initiatives, and resources
  • Build institutional anti-racism capacity and capabilities
  • Provide advice to departments and teams related to anti-racism and cultural competency
  • Coordinate education initiatives and develop tools and resources to promote and support anti-racism and cross-cultural communication skills
  • Research best practices in anti-racism within institutions, and utilize this information in the planning, development, and facilitation of all projects and initiatives (e.g., training seminars, information sessions),
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary university degree, in an academic discipline that is transferable to the role
  • A Master\'s degree is an asset
  • Minimum of three years related experience
  • Experience must include a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of trauma-informed practices as well as the impacts of systemic and structural inequities on historically marginalized groups
  • Experience working in a post-secondary or other complex institutions would be considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in a professional setting
  • Managing complex assignments from inception through to implementation
  • Relevant training in trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approaches and demonstrated understanding of working within an intersectional framework
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with students and other campus community members
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the historical and current barriers faced by racialized, Indigenous, and Black communities due to issues of inequity, and systemic oppression
  • Superior communication skills (verbal, non-verbal, written, and listening)
  • Experience or relationships with relevant community organizations, or similar, would be an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, including Microsoft Word and strong command of PowerPoint
  • Experience with MyUPEI, Moodle, or Sharepoint would be an asset
